Vaughan to Hamilton is about 85 km and usually 60 to 75 minutes by car: Highway 407 ETR west to the 403 into Hamilton, or the 400, 401 and QEW without tolls. By transit, take Line 1 from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre to Union, then a GO train to Hamilton, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours. A HamiltonLimo.net business sedan is a planning $245–300, all-in plus HST.
Vaughan to Hamilton by car: the 407 and 403 run
Vaughan and Hamilton are at opposite corners of the western Golden Horseshoe, and there is no straight road between them. Almost every car trip uses one of two corridors. Our Vaughan car and limo service page lists the fares from Vaughan to every airport and city; this post is the practical guide to the Vaughan to Hamilton trip itself, whether you are visiting family, going to a game, or heading to a hospital appointment.
Corridor 1: the 407 ETR. From Highway 400 or Highway 7 in Vaughan, the 407 runs west across Brampton, Mississauga, Milton and Oakville and ends at the 403 and QEW junction in Burlington. From there the 403 carries you over the escarpment into Hamilton. It is tolled, and it is the fastest way most of the day.
Corridor 2: the 400, 401 and 403 or QEW. Head south on the 400, west on the 401, then down the 403 or 427 to the QEW and on to Hamilton. It is free but runs through the busiest stretches of highway in the country, so rush-hour times can double.
With HamiltonLimo.net, the chauffeur chooses on the day and the 407 toll is already inside the fixed fare. If you drive yourself, the 407 ETR site explains how tolls are charged to your licence plate.

Vaughan to Hamilton by transit
Transit works well for a solo traveller going downtown. The usual chain:
- TTC Line 1 from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (or Highway 407 station) south to Union Station; see the TTC.
- GO Transit Lakeshore West train from Union to Hamilton, either the Hamilton GO Centre on Hunter Street or West Harbour on James Street North; check the timetable on GO Transit, because not every train runs through to Hamilton.
- HSR bus or a walk to your final address.
Allow roughly 2 to 2.5 hours door to door. GO also runs buses on some cross-region corridors; the GO trip planner shows whether a bus connection beats going via Union for your exact start point. Our post on Hamilton GO Centre vs West Harbour explains which station suits which part of the city.

Transit, driving or a chauffeur: which to choose
- Transit is cheapest for one person going downtown in daylight with light bags.
- Driving yourself is simplest if you have a car, will not drink, and your Hamilton destination has parking.
- A chauffeured car earns its fare for groups, seniors, evenings out, hospital visits, trips with luggage and anything involving several stops.
The price is per vehicle, so three adults sharing a sedan at the top of its planning range pay about $100 each, one way, with no transfers.
Why Vaughan residents make this trip
The reasons we see most often:
- Family visits, especially bringing grandparents to a Sunday lunch in Stoney Creek or Ancaster and home again.
- Hospital appointments at Hamilton General, the Juravinski or McMaster Children's, where a specialist referral sends a Vaughan patient west.
- Game days and concerts at Hamilton Stadium (the former Tim Hortons Field) and TD Coliseum; see our Tiger-Cats game day page.
- McMaster University: move-in, visits and convocation.
- Weddings at Hamilton, Burlington and Niagara venues, with Vaughan guests who would rather not drive home.
When an hourly chauffeur beats two one-way fares
The hourly private chauffeur is our lead product, and the Vaughan to Hamilton day is a textbook case. A Vaughan couple visiting a parent in hospital in Hamilton, stopping for groceries and dinner, then heading home: the car waits throughout. Planning figures, all-in plus HST: business sedan $120–145 an hour, executive SUV $190–235, 3-hour minimum. A 6-hour sedan day is $720–870; two one-way fares cost $490–600 but leave you without a car for the stops in between. When the day has waiting, three stops or more, hourly usually wins. See hourly chauffeur service in Hamilton and our multiple-stops booking post.
A sample Vaughan to Hamilton game day
A group of five from Woodbridge going to a Tiger-Cats evening game: executive SUV at 4:30 p.m., along the 407 to the 403 and into the city, drop-off near the stadium around 5:45, dinner on James Street North beforehand if they want it, and pickup at a side street after the final whistle. Booked hourly, the SUV waits; booked one way each direction, the group pays two fares and the chauffeur leaves between. Dispatch prices both.

Where the chauffeur picks up in Vaughan
Vaughan is spread out, from the towers around the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre to the houses of Woodbridge, Maple, Thornhill and Kleinburg. The chauffeur comes to your door, so there is no need to walk to a subway station or a GO stop. For condos near VMC, add the building's visitor drop-off or lobby entrance to the booking notes; many towers have a short lay-by on a side street rather than on Highway 7 itself. For offices in the business parks along Highway 7 and Jane Street, give the unit number and the door you will use. If you are staying at a Vaughan hotel before an event in Hamilton, the chauffeur meets you at the lobby entrance.
Taking an older parent from Vaughan to a Hamilton appointment
Specialist referrals often send patients from York Region to Hamilton's hospitals. For an older parent, the difference between transit and a car is not only time: it is avoiding stairs, platform gaps and a long walk from the GO station to a clinic. A luxury van with an easy step-in height suits many seniors. The chauffeur drops at the hospital's main entrance, helps with a walker or a folding wheelchair (our fleet has no ramp vehicles; for ramp transport we refer you to a specialist provider), and waits if the booking is hourly. Our medical appointments page explains how waiting works at clinic doors.
Moving wedding guests from Vaughan to a Hamilton venue
Vaughan families often hold weddings with a Hamilton, Burlington or Niagara venue in mind, and many guests prefer not to drive home late. A 14-seat Sprinter from a Woodbridge banquet hall or a family home to the ceremony and on to the reception keeps the group together; return runs at the end of the night mean nobody has to choose between a drink and the 407. Stretch limousines, party buses and coaches come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, and a coordinator prices multi-vehicle wedding plans in writing. See our wedding limo service.
Mistakes to avoid on the Vaughan to Hamilton trip
- Planning around the 401 at 5 p.m. The 407 exists for exactly that hour.
- Getting off the GO train at the wrong Hamilton station. Check which of the two stations your train serves.
- Booking one-way fares for a day of stops. An hourly chauffeur waits; one-way cars leave.
- Leaving the return trip until the event ends. After a game or concert, a pre-booked car with a confirmed pickup point beats waiting in a crowd for a ride.
Staying overnight in Hamilton
For a two-day visit or a late event, a night in town can make sense. Our downtown Hamilton hotels page lists verified hotels in the core and how cars stop at each. For an early flight from Hamilton airport the next morning, the Mountain and Ancaster hotels are closer to YHM.
Hamilton to Vaughan: the trip home
The return fare is the same planning range. For evening pickups after a game or concert, book the return when you book the outbound so the chauffeur is already assigned; event nights fill fast. The pickup point is confirmed in writing, often a side street a block from the venue to avoid gridlock.
Airports on a Vaughan to Hamilton trip
If your Hamilton visit ends with a flight, Pearson sits between the two cities and is often the natural finish: Vaughan to Pearson is about 25 km, Hamilton to Pearson about 70 km and a planning $245–300. Our Hamilton to Pearson airport route has timings.
