The GO bus from Hamilton to Pearson is GO Transit route 40, Hamilton / Richmond Hill. Per GO's timetable effective September 2026 it runs daily from Hamilton GO Centre via Dundas St. and Trafalgar Rd. at Highway 407, Square One and the Mississauga Transitway to Pearson Terminal 1. It is far cheaper than a car for one person. A private sedan is $245–300 all-in, door to door, any terminal.
GO bus Hamilton to Pearson: what the route is
GO Transit is the regional transit service run by Metrolinx. Its route 40 bus links Hamilton with Toronto Pearson. We checked GO's published route 40 timetable on 30 September 2026. It is listed as "Hamilton / Richmond Hill", effective September 2026, with separate Monday-to-Friday and Saturday-and-Sunday schedules. Some trips are labelled 40C, 40H or 40M; these are variations of the same route beyond the airport.
The stops between Hamilton and the airport, in order, are:
- Hamilton GO Centre (downtown Hamilton, Hunter Street)
- Dundas St. @ Hwy. 407 (Burlington)
- Trafalgar Rd. @ Hwy. 407 (Oakville)
- Square One (Mississauga)
- Dixie Transitway Station
- Renforth Transitway Station
- Pearson Airport Terminal 1
Buses continue past the airport toward Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Unionville. Always confirm times on the GO Transit schedules page before you travel. We do not print fares or frequencies here, because they change and we cannot guarantee them.
GO bus from Pearson airport to Hamilton
The return direction runs the same stops in reverse. The bus stop is at Terminal 1. If you land at Terminal 3, you first take the airport's Terminal Link train to Terminal 1. Check Toronto Pearson for directions inside the terminal and for current Terminal Link service.
At the Hamilton end, the bus arrives at Hamilton GO Centre downtown. From there, most people still need a local ride home: an HSR bus, a taxi, a rideshare or a pre-booked car. The Hamilton GO Centre pickup page explains how our chauffeurs meet passengers there.

When the GO bus wins
Be honest about your trip. The bus is the better choice when most of these are true:
- You are travelling alone or as a couple.
- You have a carry-on or one suitcase each.
- You live or can easily get to Hamilton GO Centre, or to the Burlington or Oakville stops at Highway 407.
- You are flying from Terminal 1.
- Your flight time sits comfortably within the bus timetable.
- You have time to spare and do not mind intermediate stops.
- Budget is the deciding factor.
For that traveller, the bus is excellent value and a private car would be a luxury. We would rather tell you that than sell you a ride you do not need.
When a private car wins
A pre-booked car is usually the better choice when any of these apply:
- Three or more travellers. One executive SUV fare split six ways is about $68–83 each, all-in.
- Children and car seats. Carrying seats, a stroller and bags onto a bus and through a terminal is hard work.
- Terminal 3 flights. The car stops at your terminal's door.
- Very early or very late flights. Check whether a bus trip fits. If it does not, the car is the only door-to-door option.
- Heavy or awkward luggage. Golf bags, ski bags and large cases.
- Mobility limits. The chauffeur brings the car to the curb and handles every bag.
- Long-haul arrivals. After an overnight flight, a car at the curb beats a timetable.
- Tight connections to plans. A meeting, a wedding or a cruise transfer that cannot slip.
The Hamilton to Pearson limo route page lists every vehicle's fare.

The real cost per person
A bus fare is per person. A car fare is per vehicle. That flips the comparison as the group grows.
| Group | Private car | Car cost per person |
|---|---|---|
| 1 traveller | Sedan $245–300 | $245–300 |
| 2 travellers | Sedan $245–300 | about $123–150 |
| 3 travellers | Sedan $245–300 | about $82–100 |
| 4 travellers, bags | Business SUV about $320–390 | about $80–98 |
| 6 travellers | Executive SUV about $405–495 | about $68–83 |
| 14 travellers | Sprinter about $675–825 | about $48–59 |
| 7 travellers, VIP lounge | Jet Sprinter about $1,140–1,395 | about $163–199 |
Compare those with the current GO fare on gotransit.com, multiplied by the number of travellers, and add the cost of reaching the bus stop at both ends.
The hidden legs: getting to and from the bus
The bus does not start at your door. Count the first and last legs honestly:
- Getting to Hamilton GO Centre. From the Mountain, Ancaster or Stoney Creek, that is an HSR bus, a taxi or a ride. A car within Hamilton is $75–100 one way.
- Getting home from Hamilton GO Centre. After a late landing, the same question applies in reverse.
- Time buffers. Travellers using a timetable usually leave earlier to be safe.
If the first and last legs cost $75–100 each by car, a solo traveller's bus trip still usually wins on price. For two or more people with bags, the gap narrows quickly. Local bus options are on the Hamilton Street Railway site.
Paying for the GO bus
GO buses accept the PRESTO card and other payment methods listed by GO Transit. Fares depend on the distance travelled and the payment type. Check the current options on the PRESTO and GO Transit sites before you travel, especially if you are a visitor without a Canadian card.
Luggage and the bus
On the bus you are responsible for your own bags from door to aircraft. If you are travelling with more than you can lift and move alone, or with fragile items, plan for that. GO publishes its own rules on what can be carried. A private car carries three standard checked bags in a sedan, six in an executive SUV or luxury van, and fourteen in a Sprinter. Oversized items should be listed at booking so dispatch sends the right vehicle.
Timing your departure each way
By bus: pick a trip that reaches Terminal 1 with your airline's recommended check-in time plus a margin. The bus makes several stops and uses busy roads, including the Highway 407 corridor and Mississauga's Transitway.
By car: dispatch plans from your address. Allow 45–65 minutes of driving from downtown Hamilton. Weekday rush hours on the QEW and 403 sit at the upper end. Early mornings and weekends sit at the lower end. The chauffeur uses the 407 ETR when it saves time, with the toll inside the fare.
Winter, weather and late arrivals
Snow squalls off Lake Ontario slow every vehicle on the QEW and the 403, bus or car. The difference is who waits outside. On a winter night a car can be timed to your actual landing and meet you at the commercial pickup area, while a bus traveller waits for the next scheduled departure. Our included waiting is 30 minutes from actual landing on Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes on other international arrivals. Weather forecasts are on Environment Canada.
A mixed plan: bus one way, car the other
Many Hamilton travellers do both. A popular pattern is the bus to the airport in daylight with light bags, and a pre-booked car home after a late or long-haul arrival. Another is a car to Pearson for an early family departure, and the bus home for one parent returning alone. You only pay for the car on the leg where it matters.
Other options people ask about
- Taxi or rideshare. Prices move with demand and traffic. A pre-booked car fixes the fare in advance.
- UP Express. It runs between Union Station and Pearson Terminal 1. From Hamilton it means a GO train to Union first, then the UP. Details are on UP Express.
- Flying from Hamilton instead. If your airline serves YHM, the ride is 15 km and $90–115 by sedan. See the Hamilton airport YHM guide.
Travelling from Burlington, Ancaster, Stoney Creek or Niagara
Where you live changes the answer. Burlington residents near Dundas Street and Highway 407 can walk or take a short ride to the route 40 stop there, skipping downtown Hamilton entirely. That makes the bus more attractive for them. Ancaster, Dundas and the West Mountain are further from Hamilton GO Centre, so the first leg is longer. Stoney Creek and Grimsby travellers face the same issue from the east. For Niagara travellers, the bus requires a trip into Hamilton or Burlington first, and a private car from St. Catharines or Niagara Falls often makes more sense for families.
A private car prices each address individually. A Burlington pickup is a little lower than downtown Hamilton; a Grimsby pickup a little higher. Our Burlington car service and Stoney Creek limo pages list local details.
Business travellers: time is the real cost
For a business traveller, the ticket price is rarely the deciding number. A car leaves when you are ready, goes directly to your terminal and lets you take calls in private for the 45–65 minutes of the drive. A bus trip with several stops, plus the ride to the bus stop, can take noticeably longer door to door. Companies that move staff through Pearson regularly often set up a corporate car service account with central billing, while individual employees on a tight budget may still choose the bus for midday flights. Both are sensible; the point is to choose deliberately.
Quick decision checklist
- Count travellers. Three or more? Price the car.
- Check your terminal. Terminal 3? The car saves a transfer.
- Check the bus timetable against your flight.
- Count the bags you must carry yourself.
- Add the cost of getting to and from the bus stop.
- Decide which leg, if any, needs door-to-door service.
