HamiltonLimo.net collects and drops Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) passengers at the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay, at the foot of Bathurst Street, where you arrive after the pedestrian tunnel or the short ferry. It is about 70 km from downtown Hamilton, 55–80 minutes; a business sedan is $275–340 all-in plus HST as a planning range.
Billy Bishop airport limo: why Hamilton travellers use it
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is the small airport on the Toronto Island, right beside downtown Toronto. Porter Airlines and Air Canada fly from it, and for a Hamilton traveller its appeal is speed on the ground once you are there: a small terminal, short walks and quick security. The catch is that you have to cross the whole of the Gardiner and the downtown core to reach it, which is why a private car that knows the approaches is worth more here than at any other airport we serve. This page covers the airport end — the island, the tunnel, the pickup point. For fares from each Hamilton neighbourhood and the route choices, see our Hamilton to Billy Bishop airport limo page.
How the island airport works: tunnel and ferry
Cars do not drive onto the island. The terminal sits across a narrow channel from the foot of Bathurst Street, and passengers cross it one of two ways:
- The pedestrian tunnel — about 260 m long with moving walkways, open to passengers at all times the airport is operating. It takes a few minutes with a rolling bag, and there are elevators at both ends.
- The ferry — a very short crossing from the mainland terminal, one of the shortest scheduled ferry rides anywhere.
Either way, you begin and end your journey at the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay, and that is where your chauffeur drops you and collects you. PortsToronto, which operates the airport, and the airport's own site have current details of the tunnel, ferry and passenger services.

Downtown Hamilton is our published rate-card figure; the others are planning figures on the same structure. Billy Bishop fares sit slightly above Pearson's because the last few kilometres through downtown Toronto are slow and hard to predict.
Where your chauffeur waits at Eireann Quay
The quay at the foot of Bathurst Street is small, and space for cars is tight. On arrival your fare includes curbside pickup at the mainland pavilion's pickup area; the chauffeur messages you as the flight lands, and again with the exact position and plate as you come up from the tunnel or off the ferry. Because the walk from gate to curb is short at YTZ, passengers are often outside within 15–20 minutes of landing on a domestic flight, and we plan for that. Meet & greet, planning figure $25–35, is available if you would like the chauffeur waiting at the pavilion doors with a name board — useful for a first visit or a parent travelling alone with children.

Waiting and flight tracking at YTZ
Every YTZ pickup is tied to your flight number. We watch it from departure, so the fog delays that sometimes affect the island in spring and autumn simply move the chauffeur's schedule. Included waiting runs from actual landing:
- 30 minutes for Canadian domestic and US flights — which covers nearly everything flying into Billy Bishop
- 60 minutes for other international arrivals
- then 15-minute blocks, shown on the receipt
If your flight is diverted to Pearson — it happens when weather closes the island — tell us or let the tracking catch it: the chauffeur is rerouted to the right terminal and the fare is adjusted to the Pearson structure.
Departures: timing the drop-off in downtown Toronto
Billy Bishop is quick once you are inside, but getting to the quay from Hamilton is the hard part. For departures we plan backwards from the airline's check-in cut-off, add a few minutes for the tunnel or ferry, and then add the drive for the hour you are travelling. Our usual advice:
- Before 6:30 a.m.: 55–60 minutes from downtown Hamilton.
- Weekday morning peak: 75–90 minutes; the Gardiner eastbound and the Lake Shore approaches crawl.
- Weekday evening flights: allow for the QEW eastbound and downtown event traffic.
- Weekends with stadium or waterfront events: extra time on Lake Shore Boulevard.
The chauffeur drops you at the pavilion doors; walk straight in.
The approach roads around Bathurst and Lake Shore
The chauffeur's real job at Billy Bishop is the last three kilometres. The usual line from Hamilton is the QEW (or the 403 and 407 when the QEW is stuck), then the Gardiner Expressway into the city, exiting to Lake Shore Boulevard and down Bathurst Street to the quay. Gardiner lane closures, events at the Exhibition grounds and waterfront festivals all change that picture, and we check Ontario 511 and the City of Toronto road notices on the morning of travel. When the Gardiner is closed we come in on Lake Shore from the west. It is the kind of local knowledge that makes a 70-minute trip reliable rather than a gamble.
Hourly chauffeur for a downtown Toronto day
Billy Bishop is a business airport, and many of our YTZ bookings are not really airport transfers at all. A Hamilton executive flies back from Ottawa or Montreal into the island at lunchtime, has two meetings in the Financial District and one at a client's office in Liberty Village, then goes home to Ancaster. That is a textbook case for the hourly chauffeur service: one car and chauffeur, a 3-hour minimum, and no parking to find downtown. A 4-hour sedan booking is $480–580 all-in plus HST as a planning range; a first-class sedan is $285–350 an hour. Our guide to hourly vs point-to-point shows the maths.
Choosing a vehicle for the island airport
Flights at Billy Bishop use smaller aircraft, so most travellers are light — a carry-on and a laptop bag. That makes the business sedan the default, with the first-class sedan for executives who want to work on the way home. A business SUV — a black Tahoe or Yukon for up to five passengers and five bags — sits close to sedan money at about $360–440 one way from downtown Hamilton, and adds winter traction. Families heading off on a holiday, or a small team flying together, fit an executive SUV. Large Sprinters are harder to position on the quay; for groups above six we plan the pickup point with you at booking. Child seats are added at booking (planning figure $10–15 each) and installed before the chauffeur arrives.

Union Station, the UP Express and other ways to get there
If you are travelling light and alone, public transit is a real option: a GO train from Hamilton to Union Station, then a streetcar or a walk to the foot of Bathurst Street. GO Transit publishes current schedules; we will not quote them because they change. The private car makes sense when you have luggage, a tight connection, an early flight before the first train, or a group. It also removes the most stressful part of the transit route — the transfer at Union with bags. If you are connecting between Billy Bishop and a train at Union, our Union Station page explains how we handle that pickup.
Private flights at Billy Bishop
Business aircraft also use the island, through the airport's general-aviation handling rather than the passenger terminal. Those trips follow the same mainland logic — nobody drives onto the island — but timing is set by the crew and handler rather than an airline schedule. Book them through our Billy Bishop private aviation page with the tail number and estimated arrival, and the dispatcher coordinates the rest. First-class sedans and executive SUVs are the usual vehicles, often on an hourly booking for the visit.
Weather, fog and diversions
The island's waterfront location gives it character and, occasionally, fog. When visibility closes the airport, arriving flights can be delayed, cancelled or diverted — usually to Pearson. Our flight tracking catches diversions automatically; the chauffeur heads to the right terminal and messages you. In winter the more common problem is on the road: lake-effect squalls on the QEW and black ice on the escarpment accesses back in Hamilton. On storm days we move departure pickups earlier and tell you the evening before. We watch Environment Canada forecasts so you do not have to.
Business travellers and assistants booking YTZ
Executive assistants booking Billy Bishop trips for Hamilton staff tell us the same thing: they want one supplier, one standard, and a named chauffeur who knows the quay. Our corporate car service sets up an account with central billing, traveller profiles and standing notes (first-class sedan, 407 when faster, quiet ride). Round trips — out in the morning, back on the last flight — are booked together, and the return automatically tracks the evening flight. For roadshows with meetings in several Toronto neighbourhoods, one hourly booking replaces a string of taxis.
Accessibility at the island airport
The tunnel has elevators at both ends and moving walkways, which helps travellers with limited mobility, and airlines arrange wheelchair assistance through the terminal — request it when you book your flight. On our side, tell us at booking if a passenger needs time, a lower step-in height or space for a folding wheelchair. The chauffeur brings the car as close to the pavilion doors as the quay allows, handles every bag and waits while the passenger settles. Meet & greet lets the chauffeur take over from the airline assistant at the doors.

Billy Bishop compared with Pearson and Hamilton
For Hamilton travellers, the choice between airports comes down to the flight you want and the time of day. Billy Bishop wins for short domestic and some US business trips when you value a small, quick terminal. Toronto Pearson has far more routes and long-haul flights and is a little easier to reach from Hamilton at rush hour. Hamilton airport is closest of all, 15 km from downtown, when your airline flies from it. We serve all three from one dispatch desk, so the ground side never has to decide the flight for you.
