John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) is in Mount Hope, about 15 km and 20–25 minutes south of downtown Hamilton. You can drive and park in the terminal lot, take the HSR A Line Express, Route 20, from downtown, use a taxi or rideshare, or book a chauffeur. A HamiltonLimo.net sedan to YHM is $90–115 all-in plus HST.

Airlines and destinations
When we checked on 30 September 2026, the airport's homepage named Air Canada, Porter Airlines and WestJet. Routes and seasonal flights change through the year, and winter sun charters come and go. Check the airlines and destinations section of flyhamilton.ca or your airline before planning. When you book a car with us, the flight number is all we need; the pickup follows the aircraft.
Getting to YHM by car
The route depends on where you start.
- Lower city and downtown: up the Claremont Access or James Mountain Road, onto the Linc westbound, then south on Upper James Street to Airport Road.
- East end and Stoney Creek: the Red Hill Valley Parkway to the Linc, then Upper James.
- Ancaster and the West Mountain: the Linc east, or Highway 6 directly.
- Burlington and the GTA: Highway 403 to the Linc, then Upper James.
- Caledonia and Haldimand: north on Highway 6.
In winter, the escarpment accesses are the variable. Snow and freezing rain slow the Jolley Cut and the Claremont first, and the upper city often has more snow than downtown. Check Ontario 511 before leaving and add time between December and March.
Parking at YHM: what it costs
The airport has a terminal parking lot directly in front of the Air Terminal Building. When we checked the YHM parking page on 30 September 2026, the posted drive-up rates were:
| Duration | Posted drive-up rate |
|---|---|
| 0–30 minutes | $5.00 |
| Hourly maximum | $10.00 |
| Daily maximum (each 24 hours) | $33.00 |
The airport also offers pre-booked parking online, which it says saves on drive-up rates. Pre-booking requires a stay of at least 24 hours and can be made up to four hours before arrival. There are two reservation types: "Flex", which can be amended or cancelled, and "Fixed", which cannot be changed or refunded. Entry and exit use QR codes for pre-booked stays. Rates can change, so check before you go.
Parking vs a chauffeur: the worked maths
Compare drive-up parking with a round trip by business sedan from downtown Hamilton. The sedan is $90–115 each way, so $180–230 all-in plus HST for the round trip.
| Trip length | Drive-up parking at the daily maximum | Sedan round trip from downtown |
|---|---|---|
| 2 days | $66 | $180–230 |
| 4 days | $132 | $180–230 |
| 5 days | $165 | $180–230 |
| 7 days | $231 | $180–230 |
| 14 days | $462 | $180–230 |
The pattern: for trips of up to about six days, parking is cheaper on price alone. At about a week the two are level, and for longer trips a chauffeured round trip is cheaper than drive-up parking. Pre-booked parking narrows the gap, so compare against the airport's online price for your dates.
Price is not the only factor. Count these too:
- Two cars needed for a large family means two parking bills.
- A red-eye landing means driving home tired, up or down the escarpment.
- Snow on the windscreen after a week away in February.
- Nobody has to be the designated driver after a holiday.
Getting to YHM by bus: HSR Route 20
The airport's ground transportation page lists the HSR A Line Express, Route 20, between the airport and downtown Hamilton. It connects with the Hamilton GO Centre and Mohawk College's Fennell campus. That makes it the public-transit link between YHM and GO Transit's regional network.
Check current times and fares on the Hamilton Street Railway site. The bus suits a solo traveller with light luggage travelling during service hours. For very early departures, late arrivals or heavy bags, a car is usually more practical.
Taxis, rideshare and rental cars
The airport lists these options on its ground transportation page:
- Taxis: the taxi zone is directly across the street from the Arrivals doors. Two local taxi companies are listed.
- Uber and Lyft: pick-up and drop-off along the terminal curb at the west end of the sidewalk.
- Rental cars: four on-site companies, Avis, National, Budget and Enterprise.
- Limos and shuttles: not scheduled services; you arrange them directly with a provider.
A HamiltonLimo.net booking falls into the last group: a pre-arranged private car at a fixed fare. For a plain flat-rate ride at taxi-like prices, see our airport taxi flat rate service.

Inside the terminal: food, shops and services
When we checked the airport's amenities page on 30 September 2026, it listed:
- Tim Hortons before security, with a full menu.
- Dark Horse YHM after security, with specialty coffee and pastry, craft beer, wine and cocktails.
- Duty Free and Departures Retail Shop after security, with books, magazines, drinks, snacks and last-minute items.
- Best Buy kiosk after security, for technology and travel accessories.
- ATMs before and after security, accepting foreign debit and credit cards.
Food choice after security is limited compared with Pearson. If you want a proper meal, eat before security or before you leave home.
Security, gates and customs
Pre-board screening at Canadian airports is carried out by CATSA, which publishes what you may carry in hand luggage. The airport's homepage mentions new passenger jet bridges between the gate and the aircraft. For international arrivals, it mentions Primary Inspection Kiosks to speed up the customs process. Customs and border rules are set by the CBSA.
Check-in cut-off times are set by each airline. The airport links to them from its passenger information section. Allow your airline's recommended time plus a margin for the drive up the Mountain.
Warplane Heritage Museum on the airport grounds
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum sits on the airport grounds. The airport's amenities page says the museum offers free admission with a same-day boarding pass; confirm on the museum's site before you plan around it. With a long connection or an afternoon departure, a museum visit is an easy way to spend spare time. Our Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum page covers visits by car.
Arriving at YHM: step by step
- Collect your bags. International passengers clear customs first.
- Walk out through the Arrivals doors.
- If you booked HamiltonLimo.net: your chauffeur has tracked the flight and texts the car's colour, plate and position. Pickup is curbside at the terminal's commercial pickup area.
- If you added meet and greet (about $25–35): the chauffeur waits inside the arrivals area with a name board and walks you to the car.
- Included waiting starts at actual landing: 30 minutes for Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes for other international flights.
Departing from YHM: step by step
- Check your airline's check-in cut-off and your terminal requirements.
- Book your pickup with a buffer for the escarpment, more in winter.
- The chauffeur drops you at the departures curb in front of the terminal and unloads your bags.
- Check in, clear security and head to your gate.
Typical drive times: 20–25 minutes from downtown, 15–20 minutes from Ancaster, 20–30 minutes from Stoney Creek, 25–35 minutes from Burlington.
Families, accessibility and special assistance
The single terminal building keeps walking distances short, which helps travellers with children or limited mobility. Airlines arrange wheelchair assistance through the terminal; request it when you book your flight. On our side, child seats (infant, convertible or booster) are added at booking at about $10–15 each. Our fleet has no ramp-equipped vehicles, but chauffeurs fold and stow wheelchairs and walkers for passengers who can transfer to a seat. For a power chair, a specialist accessible provider is needed.
Why travellers choose YHM over Pearson
For many Hamilton, Niagara and Brantford travellers, YHM is simply closer. A sedan to YHM from downtown is $90–115; to Pearson it is $245–300. The drive is 15 km instead of about 70. If your airline and destination are available from Hamilton, the savings on the ground can be significant. If they are not, see our Hamilton to Pearson limo route and the GO bus vs limo comparison.

Hourly chauffeurs around a YHM trip
HamiltonLimo.net's lead product is the hourly chauffeur service: one car and one chauffeur for a 3-hour minimum. It fits airport days with more than one stop. A visitor can land at YHM, visit a plant in Stoney Creek, have lunch on James Street North and return for an evening flight with the same car. A four-hour sedan is $480–580 all-in plus HST. Private aircraft passengers use the general aviation side of the field; see Hamilton YHM private aviation.
Staying near the airport before an early flight
Many YHM departures leave early in the morning, especially winter sun flights. Some travellers from Niagara, Brantford or Kitchener-Waterloo stay in Hamilton the night before. Hotels along Upper James and downtown are both within about 25 minutes of the terminal. A pre-booked pickup from the hotel door removes the need to leave a car in the airport lot. Give the hotel name at booking and the chauffeur will confirm which entrance to use. From further afield, the fixed fares from Brantford and St. Catharines are listed on those city pages.
Travelling to YHM with a group
Sports teams, school trips, wedding parties and staff groups often fly out of YHM together. Splitting a group across several taxis means several drivers, several bills and people arriving at different times. A 14-seat Sprinter carries up to fourteen passengers and fourteen bags in one vehicle, at about 2.75 times the sedan fare. A business SUV carries five, and an executive SUV or luxury van six. Tell dispatch the number of travellers and bags so the right vehicle is sent. See Sprinter group transportation for capacities.
