A Billy Bishop airport pickup happens on the mainland at 2 Eireann Quay, foot of Bathurst Street, after you cross by tunnel or ferry. Private cars use complimentary spots in the turning circle with a five-minute limit; rideshare uses the finger lanes beside Little Norway Park; taxis load at a corral right of the pavilion. A flight-tracked Billy Bishop airport limo to downtown Hamilton is $275–340, about 70 km, 55–80 minutes.
Billy Bishop airport pickup: the one rule that explains everything
Nobody is collected on the island. Every arriving passenger crosses the Western Channel, through the tunnel or on the ferry, and comes out at the mainland pavilion at 2 Eireann Quay. The street space there is small, so the airport divides it up. According to its pick-up and drop-off page, private vehicles get complimentary spots inside the turning circle, limited to a maximum five-minute wait for a car that is ready to collect. Rideshare cars use the finger lanes, in the lane closest to the curb beside Little Norway Park, and rideshare drivers without a fare may not wait on airport property. Taxis load at a corral to the right of the pavilion. A booked chauffeur works within those rules, and the art of a smooth pickup is timing the car's arrival in the circle to the moment you come up from the tunnel. Our parent page on the Billy Bishop airport limo covers fares and flights; this post is about the curb.
Who waits where at Eireann Quay
| Way home | Where you meet it | Time limit or catch | Price known |
|---|---|---|---|
| Booked chauffeur (HamiltonLimo.net) | Turning circle at the pavilion; at the doors with meet & greet | Car staged nearby, pulls in when you message | At booking, fixed |
| Family member in their own car | Turning circle | 5 minutes; early arrivals are pointed to parking | Parking if they wait |
| Uber or Lyft | Finger lanes beside Little Norway Park | Drivers cannot wait on property without a fare | When requested |
| Taxi | Corral to the right of the pavilion | Depends on cabs at the corral | Meter |
| Airport shuttle to Union Station | In front of the main pavilion | About every 15 minutes | Free |
The shuttle runs to 44 York Street, beside the Fairmont Royal York, according to the airport's shuttle page, which is handy if you are continuing by GO train.
Step by step: your arrival with a booked car
- At booking you give us the flight number. Our system watches it from departure.
- Wheels down. The chauffeur, already staged near Bathurst Street rather than circling the quay, gets the landing time and messages you the car, plate and colour.
- Bags. You collect checked luggage on the island side, before the crossing.
- The crossing. Tunnel (six minutes or less, according to the airport) or ferry.
- Your message. Text "on the mainland" as you come up. The car pulls into the turning circle, usually within a couple of minutes.
- Loading. The chauffeur loads the bags; you are in the car and away inside the five-minute window.
With meet & greet (planning figure $25–35), the chauffeur waits at the pavilion doors with a name board instead, takes the trolley and walks you to the car.

Included waiting, and why the quay needs it
Waiting starts from actual landing: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, which covers almost everything arriving at the island, and 60 minutes on other international arrivals. After that it runs in 15-minute blocks, and dispatch tells you before extra time starts. The window is sized for the island's routine: taxi to the gate, deplaning, bags, the crossing. On a quiet domestic arrival with carry-on, many passengers are on the mainland within 15–20 minutes of landing. A checked bag, a slow ferry or a US flight can stretch that, and the included waiting absorbs it without a phone call.
Collecting a relative yourself vs sending a car
Family members often plan to drive in from Hamilton for the pickup. It works, but look at the whole trip: about 70 km each way, the Gardiner at whatever hour the flight lands, a five-minute limit in the turning circle, and parking with Stolport if the flight is late. That is two to three hours of someone's evening. Sending a chauffeur means the traveller is met, the bags are lifted, and the family sees them at the front door. For a parent travelling alone, add meet & greet so someone is waiting at the doors when they come up from the tunnel.
Rideshare at Billy Bishop: what to expect
Rideshare is allowed and has its own lane, which is sensible design. The catch for Hamilton-bound passengers is distance: a 70 km ride out of downtown Toronto is priced when you request it, and the vehicle is whatever accepts. For a solo traveller staying downtown with a carry-on, an app ride to a hotel a few minutes away is perfectly reasonable. For the trip home to Stoney Creek with two cases, a booked car usually wins on certainty. Our post on Uber Black vs a booked black car compares the premium tiers honestly.

The drive home after an evening landing
Westbound out of downtown on a weekday evening, the slow points are the Gardiner near the core and the QEW through Oakville and Burlington after 3 p.m. The chauffeur leaves the quay up Bathurst Street and chooses between the Gardiner and Lake Shore depending on what is moving, then decides between the QEW and the 407 around Mississauga. The toll, if used, is inside your fare. Late at night the run is usually close to 55 minutes to downtown Hamilton. Up the Mountain in winter, the chauffeur picks the escarpment access with the best conditions, often the Linc and the Red Hill rather than the Claremont.

Families, strollers and car seats at the quay
Car seats must be installed before the pickup, not in the five-minute window, so add them at booking (planning figure $10–15 each; infant, convertible or booster). An executive SUV or luxury van carries six and six, which suits a family returning from a week away. Strollers fold into the trunk. The tunnel has elevators at both ends, so a family can come up from the channel without stairs. Larger vehicles such as Sprinters are harder to position on the quay; for groups above six, we agree the pickup point with you at booking.
Business arrivals: straight to a meeting
The island is minutes from the Financial District, and many arrivals are not going home at all. A Hamilton executive landing from Ottawa at noon can go straight to King Street West, then to a client in Liberty Village, then home. Book it as an hourly chauffeur: one car, one chauffeur, a 3-hour minimum, bags locked in the trunk all afternoon. A business sedan is $120–145 per hour and a first-class sedan $285–350, all-in plus HST. Overnight visitors can be taken to one of the downtown Toronto hotels instead; see our post on hotels near Union Station for lobbies close to the quay.
Mistakes that cost time at the pickup
- Telling the driver you have landed before you have your bags. The five-minute clock starts when the car pulls in.
- Waiting inside the pavilion without messaging. The chauffeur will not pull into the circle until you are ready.
- Walking to the rideshare lanes by habit. A booked car uses the turning circle.
- Assuming someone can wait at the curb for a delayed flight. Only a tracked, staged car can; a family member has to park.
- Packing documents away on a US arrival. Keep them handy until you are through the terminal on the island.
Arriving from a US flight
Billy Bishop handles transborder flights as well as domestic ones, and arriving from the US adds Canadian customs on the island before you cross to the mainland. That is the step most likely to stretch the time from landing to curb. Keep your documents and any purchase receipts together, answer the CBSA questions, then collect your bags and head for the tunnel. The included waiting for a US arrival is 30 minutes from actual landing; on a busy evening you may use most of it, and anything beyond runs in 15-minute blocks that dispatch tells you about before they start. If you know you are carrying declarations, message the chauffeur from the baggage area so the car stays staged rather than pulling into the circle too early.
Late arrivals and the airport's hours
The airport's listed hours are 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., so the latest island arrivals land in the late evening. That is also when family members least want to drive 70 km into downtown Toronto and back. A booked car for the last flights of the day is one of our most common YTZ requests: the chauffeur is staged before landing, the Gardiner is usually clear by then, and the run home to Hamilton is close to 55 minutes. For travellers who would rather stay downtown after a late landing, a short ride to a nearby hotel and a morning car home is often the more comfortable plan.
When flights are delayed, cancelled or diverted
Delays simply move the pickup. If fog or wind diverts you to Pearson, flight tracking picks it up, the chauffeur heads to the right Pearson terminal, and the fare is adjusted to the Pearson structure. A cancelled flight is not treated as a no-show; message dispatch and we rebook for the new flight. Our sibling posts cover the tunnel or ferry crossing and the choice between Billy Bishop and Pearson.
