Uber and other rideshare apps let you add a small number of stops to one trip, but each stop is meant to be brief, not a wait while you shop or queue; check the app for current limits. For two quick stops that works. For real waiting, luggage or a group, book a chauffeured car: one way with stops listed, or hourly from $120–145 an hour, 3-hour minimum.
Uber multiple stops: what the app is designed to do
Rideshare apps are built for one-way trips, while a booked car can be hourly or point to point. The app's multiple-stops feature is an extension of the one-way model: drop a friend on the way, grab a coffee, collect someone at a second address. The app's help pages spell out the current limits on the number of stops and how long a driver should wait, and those rules change, so read them on Uber's site rather than relying on anyone's memory. The underlying design stays the same: short stops, a driver who is paid to keep moving, and the option for the driver to end the trip if a stop drags on.
If your day is really a series of stops with waiting in between, you are asking the app to do something it was not built for. Our guide to hourly vs point-to-point car service explains the two ways a chauffeured car can be booked instead; this post is about the stops themselves.
Where multi-stop rideshare goes wrong
Nothing here is a criticism of rideshare drivers, who do a hard job. It is about what happens when the booking does not match the day:
- The wait is longer than the app expects. A pharmacy line, a school pickup or a bank appointment turns a two-minute stop into fifteen.
- Bags stay in the car. If the driver ends the trip, your shopping or luggage goes with them until you reach support.
- The price moves. Changing a route mid-trip can change the fare, and demand pricing applies to the new estimate.
- The next leg is a new car. If you split the day into separate rides, each pickup is a fresh wait, a different vehicle and possibly a different price.
- Car seats and mobility aids. Few rideshare cars carry child seats, and loading a walker at every stop tests anyone's patience.
Three ways to book multiple stops with HamiltonLimo.net
- One way with stops listed. Enter every address in order when you book. The reservation engine prices the whole trip, stops included, before you confirm. Best for quick stops: collecting a colleague, dropping a gift, picking up keys.
- Wait-and-return. You go somewhere, the car waits or comes back, and takes you home. Short waits are added to a one-way booking in 15-minute blocks after the included 15 minutes; longer waits are simpler as an hourly booking.
- Hourly, as directed. The car and chauffeur are yours for the booked time, 3-hour minimum, and you add or change stops as the day goes. See the hourly chauffeur service page for the clock rules.

Which option fits which day
| Your trip | Stops | Waiting | Best booking | Planning cost, sedan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airport run, collecting a colleague on the way | 1 extra | Under 5 min | One way with stop | e.g. $245–300 Pearson, plus the stop |
| Two quick errands then home, within Hamilton | 2 | Under 10 min each | One way with stops | from $75–100, plus stops |
| Clinic appointment, pharmacy, groceries | 3 | 20–60 min each | Hourly | $360–435 for 3 h |
| Four friends from four homes to a Toronto concert | 4 pickups | Short | One way with stops (SUV or Sprinter) | Toronto fare plus stops |
| House viewings in three neighbourhoods | 5–8 | 20–40 min each | Hourly | $480–580 for 4 h |
All planning figures are all-in plus HST. The engine quotes the exact fare for your addresses, date and vehicle.
How to write a stop list dispatch can price
A clear stop list is the single best thing you can do for a multi-stop day. Give each line four pieces of information:
- Address, including the unit or entrance if it matters (hospital wings, plaza sides).
- What happens there: "collect Sam", "drop parcel", "appointment".
- Expected time on the ground: two minutes, twenty minutes, an hour.
- Anything fixed: "must arrive by 10:40", "school bell 3:15".
Example: "1) 45 Main St W, Dundas, pickup Mum, 5 min. 2) Juravinski Hospital, main entrance, appointment 10:30, 60 min. 3) Pharmacy on Upper James, 20 min. 4) Home." With that list, dispatch can tell you straight away whether one way with stops or three hours by the hour is cheaper.
The escarpment and your stop order
Hamilton's geography changes the best order of stops. The lower city and the Mountain are linked by a handful of accesses, the Claremont Access, the Jolley Cut, James Mountain Road, Sherman and Kenilworth, and the Red Hill Valley Parkway and the Linc on the east and south. Every crossing costs five to fifteen minutes, more in snow.
So group the stops: do everything below the escarpment, then everything above it, rather than zig-zagging. A chauffeur will suggest this automatically on an hourly booking. On a one-way booking with stops, list them in a sensible order yourself, or ask dispatch to reorder them. Check Ontario 511 in winter for closures on the accesses.
Errands for an older parent
The most common multi-stop day we run is not glamorous: a parent who no longer drives needs a doctor, the pharmacy, the bank and groceries. Rideshare works for one of those; it struggles with all four, because every stop involves waiting and the parent may need a hand with bags and doors.
An hourly booking fixes that. The same chauffeur stays all morning, carries the shopping, and waits at the door of each stop. Three hours in a sedan is $360–435 all-in plus HST. Our post on a personal driver for seniors' weekly errands shows how families set up a regular slot, and the medical appointments page covers hospital pickups.
Luggage and multiple stops
Luggage turns a simple stop into a vehicle decision. A sedan carries three passengers and three bags; an executive SUV or luxury van six and six; a Sprinter fourteen and fourteen. If the trip starts at a hotel, collects two people from homes and ends at Pearson, count the bags at the last stop, not the first. For a group with ski bags, golf clubs or a wedding dress in a garment bag, say so at booking so the right vehicle is sent. See the fleet for sizes.
Children and car seats across several stops
Add child seats when you book, a planning $10–15 each: infant, convertible or booster. The chauffeur installs them before pickup, and on an hourly booking they stay fitted all day, which is the real advantage over a string of separate rides. Parents collecting children from school, then a dentist, then a grandparent's house, should book hourly for that reason alone. Ontario's guidance on choosing the right seat is on ontario.ca.

Group pickups before an event
Collecting friends from several homes before a concert, a game or a night out is a multi-stop trip in reverse. The tricks:
- Start with the furthest address and work towards the venue.
- Give each person a five-minute window, not a time, and ask them to watch for the car.
- Choose the vehicle for the final headcount, not the first pickup.
- Agree one meeting point for the ride home rather than several.
For events at Hamilton Stadium (the former Tim Hortons Field) or TD Coliseum, add 20 minutes for traffic near the venue.
A real errands morning, costed both ways
Take a Tuesday in the east end: home in Stoney Creek at 9:00 a.m., a blood test at a lab on Queenston Road, the bank, a pharmacy prescription and a grocery shop, home by noon. Booked as four separate one-way rides within Hamilton, each is a planning $75–100 in a sedan, $300–400 in total, and each leg needs its own pickup time guessed in advance. Booked hourly, three hours in a sedan is $360–435 all-in plus HST, the same car waits at every door and the shopping stays in the trunk.
The totals overlap, which is the point: once a trip has four stops with real waiting, hourly costs about the same and removes every timing problem. With only two stops, separate rides or one way with stops listed is cheaper.
Moving day: keys, storage and the new house
Moving days are multi-stop days with a deadline. A typical one in Hamilton: collect keys from a lawyer's office downtown, stop at the bank, visit a storage unit near the Red Hill Valley Parkway, meet the movers at the new house on the Mountain, and go back to the old apartment for a final walk-through. Every stop has a wait you cannot predict.
An executive SUV or luxury van by the hour, four hours at $190–235, $760–940 all-in plus HST, carries boxes of documents, a few fragile items and the family. We are not a moving company and will not carry furniture, but the car keeps everyone together while the truck does the heavy work.
Hotel guests with a list of stops
Visitors staying at a hotel often have a list rather than a destination: a relative in Dundas, a lunch on Locke Street, a gift shop, a look at the waterfront. Concierges can book an hourly car directly for guests, with the lobby as the first and last stop. The downtown Hamilton hotels and Burlington hotels guides show where cars wait at each lobby, and our Burlington page covers local stops across the bridge.
What stops cost in time
As rough planning figures: a quick drop or pickup at a house takes five minutes; a hotel lobby pickup ten; a hospital entrance ten to fifteen because of the loop; a plaza with parking, ten. Add those to the drive times between stops and you know the length of the trip. If the total is over three hours, or includes waits of more than 20 minutes, compare the price with an hourly booking before you confirm.
When rideshare is the right answer
If you are one person, with no bags, making a single quick stop on the way home at a quiet time of day, use the app. It is quick and it is fine. The same goes for a short hop across the lower city where a return ride will be easy to find. A booked car earns its fare when there is waiting, luggage, children, a group, an older passenger or an early-morning or late-night timing where a car on demand is not guaranteed.
Book a multi-stop trip direct
- Open the reservation engine.
- Choose one way and add each stop, or choose hourly and set the hours.
- Pick the vehicle for your passengers and bags, and add any child seats.
- Check the fixed fare, which includes gratuity, fuel and tolls, with HST separate.
- Confirm; the chauffeur's details arrive before pickup.
