Hotels in Burlington, Ontario fall into three areas: the lakefront downtown (The Waterfront Hotel and The Pearle), Aldershot near the GO and VIA station, and the QEW corridor on Appleby Line and Burloak Drive. For a weekend by the water, stay downtown and walk; for flights, the corridor is closest to Pearson. A chauffeured sedan from a Burlington hotel to Pearson is a planning $180–240 (42–55 km, 30–50 min).
Our money page for hotel car service in Burlington lists the pickup points and fares from every Burlington hotel. This post is the planning step before that: deciding where in Burlington to stay, what a waterfront weekend looks like without a car of your own, and how the stay changes depending on whether you came for a wedding, a meeting or two quiet nights by the lake.
Hotels in Burlington, Ontario: three areas, three kinds of stay
Burlington is long and thin, stretched along Lake Ontario between Hamilton Harbour and Oakville, and the hotels group themselves by that geography. Each area suits a different visitor.
| Area | Hotels (verified on the parent page) | Best for | Walk to the lake? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown lakefront | The Waterfront Hotel Downtown Burlington; The Pearle Hotel & Spa | Weekends, couples, festivals, weddings on the water | Yes, across the street |
| Aldershot | City View Inn | Train arrivals, the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton visits | No |
| QEW corridor, east | Holiday Inn Burlington; Hampton Inn & Suites; Courtyard by Marriott | Business visits, early Pearson flights, tournaments | No |
If the lake is the reason you are coming, the choice is easy: downtown. If you are here for a meeting on the service roads or a 6 a.m. flight, the corridor saves 10 to 15 minutes each way and usually has easier parking and pickups. Aldershot is the in-between option, closest to Hamilton and a few minutes from the train.
What a car-free waterfront weekend looks like
A downtown Burlington weekend can be done almost entirely on foot once you arrive. Spencer Smith Park runs along the shore beside the hotels, the Brant Street Pier reaches out into the lake, and Brant Street itself is lined with restaurants, cafés and shops. The Burlington Performing Arts Centre on Locust Street is a short walk for an evening show. What you need a car for is the arrival, the departure, and anything beyond the downtown grid: the Royal Botanical Gardens, the escarpment, Niagara wine country or a family visit in north Burlington. That pattern, walk in the middle and ride at the edges, is the reason many lakefront guests book a car only for the ends of the stay plus one hourly afternoon.
Getting to a Burlington hotel: airport, train or road
Planning fares below are business-sedan figures to a downtown Burlington hotel, all-in plus HST; the reservation engine quotes the exact address.
| Arriving from | Distance | Typical drive | Business sedan, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | 50–55 km | 35–50 min | $195–240 |
| Hamilton airport (YHM) | about 30 km | 25–35 min | $105–140 |
| Union Station, Toronto | about 55 km | 40–65 min | $205–270 |
| Aldershot GO / VIA station | 5–8 km | 10–15 min | a short local fare, quoted by the engine |
| Downtown Hamilton | about 13 km | 15–20 min | $90–115 |
By train, GO runs along the Lakeshore West line with stations at Aldershot, Burlington and Appleby, and VIA calls at Aldershot; check the GO Transit site for current times. A solo traveller with a carry-on can take the train and a short taxi to the hotel. A family with suitcases, or anyone arriving late at night, will find a booked car simpler. We track every flight and train.
A two-night lakefront plan, hour by hour
Here is a weekend we see often from couples in from Toronto or further afield:
- Friday, 6 p.m. Pearson pickup at the terminal's commercial pickup area, 35 to 50 minutes to the lakefront, check in, dinner on Brant Street.
- Saturday morning. Walk the waterfront trail and the pier; coffee on the way back.
- Saturday, 1–5 p.m. A four-hour hourly booking, $480–580 all-in plus HST in a sedan: the Royal Botanical Gardens, a drive up to a Waterdown lunch, and a stop at a viewpoint on the escarpment.
- Saturday evening. Walk to dinner or a show at the Performing Arts Centre.
- Sunday, 11 a.m. Checkout and back to Pearson, or on to Niagara for a second stop.
Nobody drives, nobody hunts for parking on a summer Saturday, and the fare for each piece is known in advance.

Where an hourly chauffeur beats a taxi in Burlington
Our lead product is the hourly private chauffeur: one car and one chauffeur for at least three hours, waiting at every stop. Planning rates, all-in plus HST: business sedan $120–145 an hour, first-class sedan $285–350, Business SUV $145–175, executive SUV $190–235, Sprinter $330–385, Jet Sprinter lounge for up to seven $650–750, extra time in 30-minute blocks. In Burlington it pays off when the stops are spread out and waiting is part of the day: the Royal Botanical Gardens and its trails, a family lunch in Millcroft, a winery on the Beamsville Bench, or a day of visiting relatives around Halton. For a single ride from the hotel to one restaurant, a taxi or a short one-way booking is better value, and we will not pretend otherwise. The hourly chauffeur service page has more examples.
Wedding guests staying on the lakefront
Many Burlington weddings put guests in a waterfront room block and hold the ceremony and reception elsewhere: a church in Aldershot, a golf club north of the 407, a garden venue or a winery. For the guests, the practical questions are simple. How do we get there, and how do we get back when the party ends at midnight? A Sprinter loop from the hotel with two or three late return runs answers both, and a coordinator prices multi-vehicle plans in writing. Guests arriving from Pearson on the Friday can be collected flight by flight. For the couple's car and the full timing template, see our wedding limo service page; stretch limousines and Rolls-Royce cars come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network.
Festival weekends: book early, pick up smart
Burlington's lakefront festivals bring crowds and road closures around Spencer Smith Park. The Sound of Music Festival is usually held in June and the city's Ribfest in late summer; check the official sites for current dates, and see our Burlington festivals page for the transport side. On those weekends the waterfront hotels sell out early, Lakeshore Road sections close, and the chauffeur may name a pickup corner a block or two from the hotel door. If you are arriving on festival Friday, send your flight or train details early so dispatch can plan the approach, and consider an Aldershot or corridor hotel with a booked car in and out.
Early flights from a Burlington hotel
For a morning departure from Pearson, the drive is short at 4 or 5 a.m. but check-in and security are not. From a lakefront hotel, leaving about 2.5 to 3 hours before a domestic or US departure is comfortable; for long-haul, about 3.5 hours. The corridor hotels on Appleby Line and Burloak Drive shave 10 to 15 minutes off that. Hamilton airport is the other option for the routes it serves: about 25 to 35 minutes from the lakefront via the 403 and the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway; check flyhamilton.ca for current routes. Our post on Burlington to Pearson airport goes through the road choices and leave-by times in more detail.
Business visitors: why some choose the lake anyway
The QEW corridor is the obvious base for meetings in Burlington's office parks, but plenty of business travellers choose the lakefront and accept the extra minutes. Evenings are better, there is somewhere to walk after a long day, and a client dinner on Brant Street is a two-minute stroll. With an hourly chauffeur, the commute to the corridor is 10 to 20 minutes, and the car waits outside each meeting. A typical day: 8:15 pickup at the lakefront, two meetings on the service roads, lunch in Oakville, a supplier visit in Stoney Creek and back to the hotel by 5:30, about nine hours at the sedan band. The corporate car service page covers accounts and invoicing.
Families and tournament weekends
Burlington hosts plenty of youth sport, and tournament weekends fill the corridor hotels with teams, parents and hockey bags. A sedan will not take a goalie's kit; an executive SUV (6 passengers, 6 bags) or a luxury van will, and a Sprinter (14 and 14) takes a team with its gear. Child seats (infant, convertible, booster) are available at a planning $10–15 each, added at booking. For families who fly in, a Pearson pickup in an SUV and a Sunday return are the two legs to book first; everything in between can be walked, driven by a teammate's parent, or booked hourly for a day out at the lake.
Winter by the lake
Burlington in winter is quieter and cheaper, and the waterfront is striking on a cold, clear morning. The practical difference for guests is the weather on the roads. Lake-effect squalls can cross the QEW and the Burlington Bay James N. Allan Skyway quickly, and high winds occasionally slow traffic on the bridge. Our chauffeurs watch Ontario 511, choose the 403 or the 407 when the Skyway is slow, and lean towards the executive SUV. Add 20 to 30 minutes to any winter airport run, and let dispatch set the pickup time.
Staying in Burlington, visiting Hamilton
Burlington is a common base for visitors whose real business is in Hamilton: a relative at a Hamilton hospital, a McMaster graduation, a game at Hamilton Stadium (the former Tim Hortons Field). The drive into downtown Hamilton is 15 to 20 minutes and a planning $90–115 each way in a sedan. For a hospital visit day with a stop at a pharmacy and a grocery store, an hourly booking is kinder than three taxis. See our Burlington community page for residential pickups and our post on hotels near TD Coliseum if the trip is for a show.
Other hotel areas nearby
If Burlington is full, the nearest alternatives are Oakville hotels to the east and downtown Hamilton hotels to the west, each about 15 to 25 minutes away. Travellers with a very early flight sometimes move to the Pearson airport hotels for the last night. The full list is on our hotels hub, and the City of Burlington publishes event listings and road work.

How to book the car for your Burlington stay
Book direct on our own reservation engine: enter the hotel, the flight or train, the passenger and bag count and the vehicle, and the engine shows a fixed all-in fare (chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, 407 tolls if used, airport fees, gratuity; HST separate) before you confirm. There is no app and no marketplace commission. Hotel pickups include 15 minutes of waiting, then 15-minute blocks. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10 per cent inside 72 hours, 50 per cent inside 48 hours and the full fare inside 24 hours or for a no-show.
