Burlington to Pearson airport is about 50 km, 35–50 minutes by car via the QEW and 403 or the 407. GO route 40 runs to Terminal 1 from the Dundas and Highway 407 park and ride; the GO train plus UP Express goes via Union. A booked sedan from downtown Burlington is a planning $195–240 all-in plus HST, fixed, with flight tracking on the way home.
Burlington to Pearson airport: the four ways
Burlington has good options for Pearson, but they suit very different travellers. A student with a backpack and a family of five with a 6 a.m. flight should not make the same choice. This post compares them honestly. The fares and service details for the car option, and the rest of what we do in the city, are on our Burlington limo service page, where downtown Burlington to Pearson is listed at about 50 km, 35–50 minutes and a planning $195–240 in a business sedan, all-in plus HST.
The options compared
| Option | How it works | Door to door (downtown Burlington) | Cost level | Luggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GO route 40 bus | Park and ride at Dundas & Hwy 407, direct to Terminal 1 | About 1–1.5 h incl. getting to the stop | Lowest | Medium; under-floor bays |
| GO train + UP Express | Burlington, Appleby or Aldershot GO to Union, then UP to Terminal 1 | About 1.75–2.25 h | Low | Awkward with big cases |
| Rideshare or taxi | One vehicle | 35–50 min | Varies; late or early trips can cost more | 2–3 bags |
| Drive and park | Your car, airport or off-site parking | 35–50 min plus shuttle | Parking by the day | Anything |
| Booked sedan | One vehicle, fixed fare | 35–50 min | $195–240 all-in + HST | 3 bags (SUV 6) |
Transit times are our estimates; the GO timetable on your date decides them. Check GO Transit for route 40 times and fares.
GO route 40: the underrated option
GO's route 40 runs between Hamilton GO Centre and Richmond Hill by way of Pearson Terminal 1, and its Burlington stop is the park and ride at Dundas Street and Highway 407 in the north of the city. From there it runs along the 407, stopping at the Oakville carpool lot at Trafalgar Road, Square One and the Mississauga transitway before the airport. For someone in Alton Village, Millcroft or Tyandaga, the stop is a short drive, and the bus avoids the QEW entirely. The catch: from the south end near the lake, getting to Dundas and the 407 is its own trip, and luggage space is limited to the bus bays. The Pearson ground transport page lists the bus stops at Terminal 1.
The train via Union: only if you are going downtown anyway
Burlington has three Lakeshore West stations, Aldershot, Burlington and Appleby, with frequent all-day trains to Union. From Union, the UP Express reaches Terminal 1. It works, but it takes you east to Toronto and then north-west back to the airport, with a transfer inside Union. It makes sense only if you have a reason to be downtown first. Our post on using UP Express from Hamilton walks through the transfer.
Rideshare and taxis
A 50 km app ride from Burlington to Pearson is straightforward in the middle of the day. At 4:30 a.m. availability can be thinner, and prices move with demand. The trip back is where the difference shows: after a delayed landing at midnight, an app match from Pearson is usually fine, but you are starting from scratch with tired kids and five bags. Our sibling post on airport limo vs taxi compares the two in detail.

Driving and parking
For a weekend away, driving yourself can be economical. For a two-week holiday, daily parking adds up, and there is the shuttle from the lot and the drive home after a long flight. Compare the parking cost for your dates on the Toronto Pearson website with a return car: two one-way sedan trips are a planning $390–480 all-in plus HST. On a long trip that is often competitive with the lot, and nobody drives the 403 half-asleep.
Which road does a car take from Burlington?
Burlington is unusual: Highway 407 starts right here, at the QEW and 403 interchange. That gives the chauffeur three choices. The QEW to the 403 and 401 is free and usually fine early in the morning and late at night. The 407 to the 427 bypasses the QEW through Oakville when it is jammed; any toll is inside our fixed fare. The 403 through Mississauga suits north Burlington pickups. Dispatch checks Ontario 511 before each early departure and picks the line on the day.

What time should you leave Burlington?
- Domestic flight, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.: leave 2.5 hours before departure; the drive is 35–45 minutes at these hours outside peak.
- International flight: leave 3.5 hours before; security and bag drop take longer.
- Weekday departures between 7 and 9 a.m.: add 20 minutes for the 401 approach.
- Friday afternoons in summer: add 20–30 minutes; the QEW eastbound and 403 slow early.
- After a snowfall: dispatch moves your pickup 10–15 minutes earlier and tells you.
Our post on what time to leave for a Pearson flight covers the logic from Hamilton; from Burlington, subtract about 10 minutes.
Coming home: the arrivals side
The return trip is where a booked car earns its place. Dispatch tracks your flight, so a delay moves the chauffeur rather than your bill. Included waiting is 30 minutes after a Canadian domestic or US landing and 60 minutes after other international arrivals, measured from actual landing, then 15-minute blocks. The fare includes curbside pickup at the commercial pickup area; meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is an optional add-on with a planning figure of $25–35. Our guide on where to meet your driver at Pearson arrivals explains each terminal.
Four Burlington travellers, four answers
The McMaster student in Aldershot going home for reading week: GO route 40 if the times fit, or the train and UP if the bag is small. The couple in Roseland on a 7 a.m. flight to Florida: a booked sedan at 4:15 a.m.; two people and two cases, $195–240. The family of five in Millcroft off to Europe: an executive SUV for six passengers and six bags, about 65 % more than the sedan, with child seats at $10–15 each added at booking. The executive flying out after a morning of meetings: an hourly booking, below.
The hourly option: meetings, then the flight
Burlington sits in a business corridor, and some travellers need a car before the airport, not just to it. Our lead product is the hourly chauffeur service: one car and one chauffeur for a 3-hour minimum, business sedan $120–145 per hour, all-in plus HST. A typical day: pickup at home at 9, a meeting at an office on the North Service Road, lunch in Oakville, then Terminal 1 for a 4 p.m. flight, with the bags in the trunk all day. A 4-hour sedan booking is $480–580 all-in plus HST.
Is Hamilton airport closer?
In kilometres, yes: John C. Munro Hamilton International (YHM) is about 30 km from downtown Burlington, 25–35 minutes, and a planning $105–140 in a sedan. It has far fewer flights than Pearson, and routes change with the season, so check flyhamilton.ca. If your airline flies from both, YHM's small terminal is a pleasure. Our Hamilton airport page has the details.
Staying near the airport the night before
For a very early departure, some Burlington families take the car to a Pearson hotel the evening before and sleep closer to the terminal. The Pearson airport hotels page covers the options; a sedan from Burlington to a Pearson-area hotel is priced about the same as the terminal run.
Burlington neighbourhood by neighbourhood
- Downtown and the lakeshore: QEW east is closest; 35–45 minutes off-peak.
- Aldershot and the west end: the 403 is right there; add five minutes to the downtown figures.
- Tyandaga, Brant Hills and Mountainside: the 407 is minutes away, usually the best line in the morning.
- Alton Village and Millcroft: the 407 again, and also the closest to the GO route 40 stop at Dundas and the 407.
- Appleby and the east end: the QEW through Oakville, or the 407 via Appleby Line.
Our chauffeurs know the side streets and the schools that snarl the morning; tell us the entry to your building or the best door for a condo on Lakeshore Road.
Travelling with children
Families flying from Burlington often have the most to carry: car seats, strollers, a bag per child. Child seats (infant, convertible, booster) are available on request at a planning $10–15 each, added at booking, so you do not have to drag your own through the airport. Tell us the ages and the bag count and dispatch sends the right vehicle, often a luxury van, which has the room for a folded stroller as well as six passengers. Our sibling post on airport transfers with car seats has the checklist.
Groups and teams from Burlington
Sports teams, church groups and corporate delegations leaving from Burlington need more than a car. A Sprinter takes up to 14 passengers and 14 bags, a planning figure of about 2.75 times the sedan fare, and drops everyone at one door. For larger groups, coaches from our partner network are priced in writing by a coordinator.
Visitors staying in Burlington hotels
Business visitors and wedding guests often stay in Burlington's hotels along the QEW and near the waterfront, then need Pearson on the last day. Our Burlington hotels page describes the lobby pickups. Concierges and event planners can book direct for their guests, with the guest's name and mobile on the booking so the chauffeur's texts reach the traveller.
