Aldershot station, 1199 Waterdown Road in Burlington, is where VIA Rail stops for Hamilton, and it is also a busy GO Lakeshore West station. HamiltonLimo.net meets your VIA, Maple Leaf or GO train at the station's passenger pick-up area with train tracking and 15 minutes of waiting. Downtown Hamilton is a $75–100 sedan planning range; Pearson is $220–270.
Aldershot station car service: Hamilton's VIA stop
People are often surprised that Hamilton's VIA Rail station is not in Hamilton. In 1992 VIA consolidated its Hamilton, Dundas and Burlington stops at Aldershot, on Waterdown Road just north of Plains Road and beside Highway 403, and it has stayed there. VIA's corridor trains between Toronto and London or Windsor stop here, as does the Maple Leaf between Toronto and New York City. GO Transit uses the same station as a major Lakeshore West stop with a large commuter lot. An Aldershot station car service with HamiltonLimo.net is therefore usually a VIA connection: a traveller from Ottawa, Montreal, London or New York heading to Hamilton, Ancaster or the Mountain, or a Hamilton traveller catching an early train.

Which trains stop at Aldershot
- VIA Rail corridor trains between Toronto and London, with some continuing to Windsor or Sarnia, calling at Brantford, Woodstock and London to the west. From Toronto they reach Aldershot in well under an hour.
- The Maple Leaf, run jointly by VIA Rail and Amtrak between Toronto and New York City, which stops at Aldershot, Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. Passengers arriving from the USA clear Canadian customs at Niagara Falls, before Aldershot.
- GO Lakeshore West trains to and from Union Station all day, with some continuing to West Harbour in Hamilton and some trips to Niagara.
- GO buses to Hamilton GO Centre and other points, plus Burlington Transit and an HSR route.
Timetables change each season, so check VIA Rail, Amtrak for the Maple Leaf and GO Transit before you travel.
How the station is laid out
Aldershot has four tracks served by two side platforms and an island platform, a station building with a waiting room, and one of the larger GO parking lots on the line, with around 1,600 spaces. It is unstaffed, so there is no ticket agent to ask on arrival; VIA passengers should confirm through VIA what luggage services apply to their train at this stop. VIA and GO trains can use different platforms, and the platforms are linked through the station, so allow a few minutes to walk from your train to the building and out to the pick-up side. Tell us whether you are on VIA, the Maple Leaf or GO and the chauffeur positions accordingly.

Where the car waits at Aldershot
The station is reached from Waterdown Road, and the GO lots and the bus loop fill the grounds. Our chauffeurs do not park in commuter spaces or stop in the bus loop; they use the passenger pick-up and drop-off area where stopping is permitted, or hold in the lot and come to you when you message. On weekday evenings, when hundreds of GO commuters leave at once, Waterdown Road and the lot exits back up, and a car pulling in against the flow can take five minutes. For VIA arrivals in that window, the chauffeur arrives early and waits inside the grounds rather than queuing on Waterdown Road.
Train tracking for VIA, Maple Leaf and GO
Give us your VIA train number or Maple Leaf number, or the GO trip time. Dispatch tracks it live. VIA corridor trains share track with freight and GO traffic, and the Maple Leaf crosses an international border and can run behind schedule; for a train coming in from New York, dispatch checks its status from Niagara Falls onward and resets the pickup time. Included waiting is 15 minutes from actual arrival, then 15-minute blocks, and you are messaged before extra time starts. If you want a buffer, add waiting time at booking.
When the train alone is enough
If you are going from Aldershot to downtown Toronto, stay on GO or VIA; no car competes. Hamilton residents heading to Toronto at rush hour should take the train from West Harbour or Hamilton GO Centre, not drive to Aldershot. And a VIA traveller heading to Brantford or London should ride the train the whole way. The car earns its place for the last 10 to 25 kilometres, between Aldershot and a Hamilton address, or for connections the timetable does not make.
When a chauffeur wins at Aldershot
- VIA arrivals to Hamilton addresses: there is no direct rail link from Aldershot into downtown Hamilton at most hours, and a GO bus connection adds time with luggage.
- Early departures: a 6 a.m. VIA train to Montreal needs a car if you live on the Mountain or in Ancaster.
- Maple Leaf arrivals from New York, which often come in late in the day with luggage.
- Families and groups splitting one fixed fare.
- Visitors to McMaster or the hospitals who want to go straight from the platform to the door.
The drive from Aldershot into Hamilton
From the station the chauffeur takes Plains Road or Highway 403 south, then York Boulevard over the high-level bridge past the cemetery and Dundurn, arriving downtown in about 15 minutes. For McMaster and Westdale, Highway 403 to Main Street West is quicker. For the Mountain, the 403 connects to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, which brings you across the upper city without the escarpment climbs. Ancaster is a straight run up the 403. In rush hour the 403 around the Aldershot interchange and the York Boulevard bridge both slow down; allow 25 minutes.
Luggage
VIA corridor passengers travel with more luggage than commuters, and Maple Leaf passengers coming from New York often have a week's worth. A business sedan takes three passengers and three bags; book an executive SUV or luxury van for more. Child seats cost a planning figure of $10–15 each and must be added at booking. The chauffeur loads and unloads everything at the curb.
Accessibility
Aldershot is listed as an accessible station, and VIA can arrange boarding assistance on its trains when requested through VIA in advance. Our chauffeurs help passengers who can transfer to a seat and fold and stow wheelchairs and walkers; our fleet has no ramp-equipped vehicles, so for travellers who must remain in a wheelchair we refer you to a specialist accessible provider. Meet and greet (planning figure $25–35) brings the chauffeur into the station to meet the passenger as they come off the platform.
Winter and weather
Aldershot sits below the escarpment, so snow is usually lighter here than on the Mountain, but the platforms are exposed to wind off the lake. In winter, dispatch times the chauffeur to arrive before the train, with the car warm, so nobody waits outside. If you are heading up to Ancaster or the upper city after a snowfall, the Linc and the 403 are cleared before the local escarpment accesses; the chauffeur plans the route accordingly. Ontario 511 shows road conditions.

Hourly chauffeur from Aldershot
A VIA arrival at Aldershot followed by several appointments is exactly what the hourly chauffeur service is for. One car and one chauffeur for a 3-hour minimum, business sedan planning rate $120–145 per hour, all-in plus HST; extra time in 30-minute blocks. Example: meet a consultant off the morning train from London, visit a client in Burlington, lunch in Dundas, a site in Stoney Creek, and back to Aldershot for the evening VIA. A 4-hour sedan booking is $480–580 all-in plus HST. See the private chauffeur page for waiting and stops.
Nearby: Royal Botanical Gardens and the Burlington waterfront
Aldershot station is a few minutes from the Royal Botanical Gardens on Plains Road and a short drive from downtown Burlington's waterfront. Visitors arriving by train for a garden visit or a wedding at the RBG often book a car for the short hop. Our Burlington city page covers other local trips, and the City of Burlington posts road closures for festival weekends on the waterfront.
Departures: getting to your VIA train on time
For a VIA departure from Aldershot, we plan the pickup so you arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the train; unstaffed stations do not open early for checked baggage, so carry-on travel is simplest. The chauffeur drops you at the station building rather than in the GO lot. For the Maple Leaf toward New York, remember that US customs inspection happens at Niagara Falls, New York, so carry your passport and documents on the train.
A VIA arrival, step by step
A professor travelling from Ottawa changes at Union to a westbound VIA corridor train and gets off at Aldershot in the late afternoon, bound for a hotel near McMaster. She booked with both train numbers. Dispatch sees the Ottawa train arrive late at Union but the connection hold; the chauffeur leaves Hamilton 20 minutes before the Aldershot arrival, waits in the station grounds clear of the GO commuter traffic, and texts the car's position. She is at her hotel on Main Street West 15 minutes after stepping off the train, on a $75–100 planning fare.
