Niagara Falls International Airport (IAG) is a small US airport on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Niagara Falls, New York, run by the NFTA. When we checked on 30 September 2026 it listed Allegiant Air with seasonal low-cost flights to Florida and Myrtle Beach. From downtown Hamilton it is about 80 km and 65–90 minutes via the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge; a Niagara Falls NY airport car is $325–400 by sedan, all-in plus HST.
Niagara Falls International Airport: what it is
Niagara Falls International Airport sits east of the city of Niagara Falls, New York, on Niagara Falls Boulevard. It is operated by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, the same agency that runs Buffalo Niagara International, and it shares its runways with military operations. For passengers it is a small, single-terminal leisure airport. The airport's own Where We Fly page listed Allegiant Air as its carrier when we checked on 30 September 2026, with nonstop flights to points such as Punta Gorda/Fort Myers, Orlando/Sanford, Tampa/St. Petersburg and Myrtle Beach. Those routes are seasonal and some run only a few days a week, so confirm yours on the airport's website or with the airline. For Hamilton travellers, the question is whether a cheap sun fare from IAG survives the drive and the border. Our parent page on the Niagara Falls NY airport limo covers the pickup itself; this post helps you decide.
How IAG compares with the other airports near Hamilton
Planning ranges from downtown Hamilton, business sedan, one way, all-in plus HST.
| Airport | Distance | Drive time | Business sedan | Border | Airlines and routes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hamilton (YHM) | 15 km | 20–25 min | $90–115 | No | Check flyhamilton.ca |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 70 km | 45–65 min | $245–300 | No (US preclearance for US flights) | The widest choice |
| Niagara Falls NY (IAG) | about 80 km | 65–90 min | $325–400 | Yes | Small, seasonal low-cost sun routes |
| Buffalo Niagara (BUF) | about 105 km | 80–110 min | $375–465 | Yes | Many more airlines and US routes |
IAG is the closest US airport to Hamilton, and about $50–65 cheaper each way by sedan than Buffalo. It only helps if it has your flight.
Is IAG worth the drive? A worked example
A couple from Stoney Creek wants a week in Southwest Florida in February. Allegiant from IAG shows a fare noticeably below the Pearson options on their dates.
- Ground cost to IAG, round trip by sedan from Stoney Creek: about $600–750 in planning figures (about 70 km, 55–80 minutes each way).
- Ground cost to Pearson, round trip: roughly $500–630 from Stoney Creek.
- Extra ground cost for IAG: about $100–120.
- Low-cost fare extras: add seat selection and bags to the IAG fare before comparing, because low-cost carriers price them separately.
If the fare saving for two, after extras, beats about $120, IAG wins on money; if not, Pearson's wider schedule is the calmer choice. A family of five in an executive SUV usually finds the saving multiplies faster than the ground cost.

The catch with a small, low-frequency airport
Small airports have real advantages: short walks, quick security, a curb a few steps from check-in. The trade-off is resilience. When a route runs a few days a week, a cancellation or a mechanical delay can mean a long wait for the next flight, with fewer alternatives than at a large airport. That is a reason to read your airline's policies carefully, and a reason we track every flight in both directions. If your return is moved to the next day, message dispatch and the pickup moves with it; a cancelled flight is not treated as a no-show.
The route and the bridge
From downtown Hamilton, the chauffeur follows the QEW east through Grimsby and St. Catharines and usually crosses at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, reached by Highway 405 past Queenston. From the US end, the airport is a short drive. When the Queenston queue is long, the Rainbow Bridge in downtown Niagara Falls is the usual alternative, with the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie as a longer fallback. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission and CBP wait times pages show current queues; our post on Peace Bridge wait times explains how chauffeurs read them.
Documents for a drive to IAG
Everyone in the car is inspected at the US booth. Canadian and US citizens typically use a passport, passport card, NEXUS card or enhanced driver's licence for the land crossing; check CBP for what applies to you, and check what your airline accepts for the flight. Other nationalities should check both CBP and CBSA for their own status before the trip. Keep documents in your hand, not in the trunk. On the way home, the Canadian booth asks about purchases; keep receipts together.
Timing: sun flights leave early
Many IAG departures leave in the morning, and the airline's check-in and bag-drop cut-offs are strict. From downtown Hamilton, our dispatcher usually plans a pickup three to four hours before departure: closer to three on a quiet midweek day, closer to four on a winter morning or a holiday weekend. That makes 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. pickups routine in snowbird season. A booked car confirmed the evening before is far more dependable at that hour than trying to find a ride, and the chauffeur has checked the bridge before you wake up.
Coming home to Hamilton
For the return, give us the flight number at booking. The flight is tracked from departure in Florida or the Carolinas, and the chauffeur crosses into the US before you land. Waiting is included from actual landing: 30 minutes on US domestic flights, then 15-minute blocks. The fare includes curbside pickup in the terminal's commercial pickup area; add meet & greet (planning figure $25–35) if you would like a chauffeur inside with a name board, which older travellers often appreciate after a long day.

Who IAG suits, and who it does not
- Suits: snowbirds and holidaymakers heading to the specific Florida and Carolina points it serves; families for whom a low fare multiplies; Niagara Peninsula residents in Grimsby, Beamsville or St. Catharines who are closer still.
- Does not suit: business travellers needing daily frequencies; anyone connecting onward; travellers without a document for a US land entry; people whose trip cannot absorb a delayed or rescheduled flight.
From Grimsby or Beamsville, IAG is about 50 km and 45–70 minutes, $250–320 by sedan as a planning range; see our page on Grimsby and Lincoln.
Vehicle choice for a sun trip
Holiday luggage decides the car. A couple with two large cases fits a business sedan. A business SUV (a black Tahoe or Yukon, up to five passengers and five bags, about $425–520 to IAG from downtown) suits a family of four with ordinary cases. A family of four or five with golf clubs, a stroller or car seats needs an executive SUV. The luxury van has an easier step-in for grandparents, and a Sprinter carries up to 14 people and 14 bags, about $890–1,100 from downtown Hamilton to IAG. Child seats are added at booking at $10–15 each. We fold and stow manual chairs and walkers for passengers who can transfer to a seat; our fleet has no ramp vehicles.
Parking your own car near IAG vs a booked car
Some Niagara Peninsula travellers drive to IAG themselves. Before you do, count the full cost: fuel, the bridge toll on the way home, parking for the length of the holiday (check current rates on the airport's site), and the drive back after a late-evening landing with sunburn and suitcases. Your car also crosses the border twice, so confirm your insurance covers US driving. From Hamilton, a booked car both ways usually costs more than driving yourself for a week-long trip; what it buys is that nobody in the family has to drive home at midnight after a delayed flight.
Snowbird season and older travellers
Winter brings many older passengers through IAG on their way to and from a season in Florida, often with more luggage than on any other trip of the year. A luxury van or SUV sits higher than a sedan and is easier to get into. Airlines arrange wheelchair assistance inside the terminal; request it when you book the flight, and tell us so the chauffeur meets the assistant at the curb. For a spring return after months away, check the CBSA rules on what you can bring back and keep receipts handy for the Canadian booth.
Staying in Niagara the night before?
Some travellers turn an early IAG flight into a night away: dinner in Niagara-on-the-Lake or at the falls, a hotel, and a short morning run to the bridge. Our Niagara Falls hotels and Niagara-on-the-Lake hotels pages describe where cars stop at each lobby. If the evening includes stops, an hourly chauffeur is often better value than separate one-way fares: a business sedan is $120–145 per hour and an executive SUV $190–235, 3-hour minimum, all-in plus HST.
Visitors flying into IAG to see Hamilton
The route works the other way for American visitors heading to Hamilton, Burlington or Niagara. The chauffeur meets you at IAG, drives to the Canadian border and helps you through CBSA with documents ready. Our page on Niagara Falls NY to Hamilton is written for those inbound trips, and what Americans need to enter Canada covers documents.
IAG checklist before you leave home
- Flight confirmed on the airline's site for the day you travel; low-cost schedules can shift.
- Bag and seat fees paid online in advance, where the airline allows it.
- Documents for a US land entry for every traveller, kept in hand.
- Pickup time from your confirmation, earlier in winter and on holiday weekends.
- Return flight number on the booking so the chauffeur tracks it from departure.
- Receipts together for the Canadian booth on the way home.
With those done, the trip to the closest US airport is a quiet 65–90 minute drive along the QEW and over the river.
