A private car from Niagara Falls, New York to Hamilton, Ontario covers about 75 km in 1 to 1.5 hours, crossing at the Rainbow Bridge or the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and then following the QEW around the lake. HamiltonLimo.net quotes $325–400 by business sedan, all-in plus HST, as a planning range, from hotels, homes, Lewiston or Niagara Falls International Airport (IAG).
Niagara Falls NY to Hamilton: fares, distance and drive time
This is the shortest of our US routes into Hamilton. The American city of Niagara Falls faces its Canadian namesake across the gorge, so most of the trip is on Ontario roads: over the bridge, up the Niagara Peninsula on the QEW and into Hamilton from the east. The planning ranges below are one way, all-in (chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, bridge toll, gratuity), with HST shown separately. The reservation engine quotes the exact addresses, date and vehicle and the fare it shows is fixed.
| Pickup in New York to Hamilton | Distance | Drive time | Business sedan | Executive SUV / luxury van |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Niagara Falls NY hotels / State Park to downtown Hamilton | about 75 km | 60–90 min | $325–400 | $535–660 |
| Niagara Falls International Airport (IAG) to downtown Hamilton | about 80 km | 65–90 min | $325–400 | $535–660 |
| Lewiston village to downtown Hamilton | about 70 km | 55–85 min | $315–380 | $520–625 |
| Niagara Falls NY to Burlington | about 85 km | 65–95 min | $350–425 | $580–700 |
| Niagara Falls NY to Ancaster | about 90 km | 70–100 min | $365–445 | $600–735 |
A first-class sedan is about 2.5 times the business-sedan range and a Sprinter about 2.75 times. Downtown Hamilton and IAG are our rate-card figures; the other rows are planning figures on the same structure.
Three bridges within a few kilometres
The Niagara River has more crossings in a short stretch than anywhere else on the border, and each has a different character. The Rainbow Bridge leaves from the edge of downtown Niagara Falls NY, a short walk from the State Park, and lands at the foot of Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Passenger vehicles only; no commercial trucks. The Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, about 10 km downriver, carries the heavy traffic between I-190 and Highway 405 and is the logical choice from Lewiston, Youngstown or the airport side of the city. The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge in between is restricted to NEXUS members, so it only helps if every person in the car holds a card. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission operates all three and posts current waits.
Which crossing we use and why
From a hotel near the Falls the Rainbow Bridge looks obvious, and on a quiet weekday morning it is. On a summer Saturday afternoon, though, its approach can back up with sightseers, and a five-minute detour to Lewiston-Queenston can save half an hour. Once in Ontario, the Rainbow route runs through the tourist district and out on Highway 420 to the QEW; the Lewiston-Queenston route joins Highway 405 and meets the QEW near St. Catharines, avoiding the Falls traffic entirely. The chauffeur looks at the posted waits while you are loading bags and decides then. If everyone in your party has NEXUS, tell us at booking and we will consider the Whirlpool crossing too.

Who rides from Niagara Falls NY to Hamilton
- American couples and families on a Falls trip who stayed on the New York side and want to add Hamilton for relatives, a wedding or a quieter few days among the waterfalls, trails and restaurants.
- Travellers who flew into IAG. Niagara Falls International is a small airport with mainly leisure flights; for some itineraries it is the most convenient landing point for the Hamilton area.
- Wedding guests booked into New York-side hotels for price or availability, then driven across for a ceremony in Hamilton, Burlington or Niagara wine country.
- Football and concert fans crossing for a Tiger-Cats game or a show at TD Coliseum, formerly FirstOntario Centre, which reopened in November 2025 after its renovation.
- Business visitors based in Western New York with meetings at McMaster, the port lands or the hospitals.
Pickup at Niagara Falls International Airport
IAG is a compact terminal a short drive east of the city. Arriving passengers collect bags inside and meet the chauffeur at the curb's commercial pickup area, which is what the fare includes; the chauffeur messages the exact spot, car and plate as you land. Meet & greet inside the terminal with a name board is available for a planning figure of $25–35. We track the flight, and with US flights 30 minutes of waiting is included from actual landing, then 15-minute blocks. Flights and airlines at IAG change with the seasons, so check the airport's website for current routes. Our Niagara Falls airport page covers the terminal from the departure side.
Pickup at hotels, the State Park, Lewiston and the outlets
Most of our Niagara Falls NY pickups are from hotels within a few blocks of the State Park and the casino, where the chauffeur waits at the main entrance or the hotel's designated car stop. We also collect from private homes in the city and the Town of Niagara, from Lewiston's Center Street area and from the waterfront at Youngstown. Shoppers sometimes finish at the outlet mall on Military Road before heading north. At any of these addresses 15 minutes of waiting is included, then 15-minute blocks. If you are at a large resort, tell us which entrance: the difference between a front door and a parking garage level is several minutes of phone calls. Destination Niagara USA is a useful local reference for the American side.
Documents for crossing from New York into Ontario
Every passenger needs their own documents, children included. US citizens should carry a passport book, passport card, NEXUS card or enhanced driver's licence, which covers the return to the US as well as entry to Canada. Permanent residents of the US should carry a passport and green card. Travellers of other nationalities should check CBSA for entry to Canada and CBP for what leaving the US means for their admission. One question that comes up often from overseas visitors who flew into New York: the eTA is for air travel to Canada; entering by car does not require one, although a visitor visa does still apply to nationalities that need one. Our guide to crossing the border by limo walks through a crossing step by step.
What to declare coming into Canada
The CBSA officer at the booth will ask where you live, how long you are staying and what you are bringing. Be ready with a short, accurate answer.
- Cannabis: illegal to carry across the border in either direction, regardless of where you bought it.
- Firearms and weapons: all must be declared; many types, plus pepper spray and some knives, are prohibited. Tell us at booking if this applies.
- Food and plants: declare everything; some meat, dairy and fresh produce is restricted.
- Alcohol and tobacco: a limited duty-free allowance for visitors aged 19 or over in Ontario.
- Gifts: declare them; visitors may bring gifts up to a modest value per gift without duty.
- Currency: report CAD 10,000 or more.
Current limits are on the CBSA site.

Money matters: Canadian dollars and paying for the ride
Across the bridge prices are in Canadian dollars. Cards work almost everywhere in Hamilton and Niagara, from wineries to parking machines, and tap payment is standard. Cash in US dollars is accepted by some Falls-area businesses but at a rate set by the shop. For our service the question does not arise at the curb: you pay by card in the reservation engine when you book, and the planning figures on this page are Canadian dollars. If you want a reference rate before you travel, the Bank of Canada publishes daily figures.
Both sides of the Falls, then Hamilton: an hourly day
Because the distance is short, this route combines well with a day out. Book our hourly chauffeur service instead of a one-way transfer and the chauffeur can collect you on the New York side, cross, stop at the Canadian viewpoints and the Niagara Parkway, spend an afternoon in wine country and finish at your Hamilton hotel. Minimum 3 hours; a business sedan is $120–145 per hour, an executive SUV $190–235 and a Sprinter $330–385 all-in plus HST as planning ranges. Our Niagara wine tours page covers the tasting side, including the September harvest weekends, and our Niagara Falls attraction page and Niagara wine country guide help plan the stops. The Niagara Parks site lists what is open on the Canadian side.
Timing: summer weekends, holidays and fireworks nights
The Falls area is busiest from late June to Labour Day, and the traffic shows up at the bridges. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are the slowest times to cross northbound at the Rainbow Bridge; mornings before 10 a.m. are usually easy. Independence Day and Canada Day fall within four days of each other, making the first week of July the most congested of the year. Evening illumination and summer fireworks bring extra traffic to both riverbanks after dark. On the Ontario side, the QEW toward Hamilton slows on Friday and Sunday evenings as Toronto-area drivers head to and from Niagara. The chauffeur adjusts the pickup time and the bridge choice around all of this; you just need to be at the door at the agreed time.
Travelling with children, older relatives or mobility aids
A 60- to 90-minute trip is easy with small children if the seats are right. Infant, convertible and booster seats are available on request at a planning figure of $10–15 each; add them at booking and they are installed before pickup. For older relatives, the luxury van has a low floor and sliding doors, and the chauffeur handles all luggage. Our own fleet has no ramp-equipped wheelchair-accessible vehicle; we fold and stow wheelchairs and walkers for passengers who can transfer to a seat, and refer anyone who needs a ramp to a specialist accessible provider. Mention any of this when you book so the right car arrives.
Vehicles for a Niagara Falls NY pickup
- Business sedan: three passengers and three bags.
- Business SUV: five passengers and five bags in a black Tahoe or Yukon, about $425–520 from Niagara Falls NY to downtown Hamilton.
- First-class sedan: for anniversaries, proposals and executive guests.
- Executive SUV: six and six; the family choice.
- Sprinter: fourteen and fourteen for wedding guests or a group of fans.
- Jet Sprinter: seven and five in a VIP lounge conversion, for a small group that wants room to relax after the border; $650–750 an hour.
Stretch limousines, Rolls-Royce and party buses come from vetted partner operators in our network and are priced in writing by a coordinator; they suit a wedding party more than a border transfer.
Going back across to New York
The return is booked the same way. Southbound, the US inspection sets the pace, and the queue at the American side of the Rainbow Bridge can be long on summer evenings, so the chauffeur may choose Lewiston-Queenston for a hotel in the city as well. If you are flying out of IAG, allow for the border before the airline's check-in time; if you are flying from Buffalo instead, our Hamilton to Buffalo airport route covers timing. For Canadian-side stays, our Niagara Falls city page and Hamilton to Niagara Falls route cover transfers that never cross the border.
