A chauffeur in the Hamilton area costs about $120–145 per hour in a business sedan, $190–235 in an executive SUV, $285–350 in a first-class sedan and $330–385 in a 14-seat Sprinter, all-in plus HST, with a 3-hour minimum. Stretch limousines run $350–450 per hour with a 4-hour minimum. Every vehicle's figure is on our Hamilton limo and chauffeur rates page.
How much does a chauffeur cost per hour? The numbers by vehicle
The honest answer to "how much does a chauffeur cost" depends on two things: the vehicle and what the quoted number includes. Our figures below are all-in, meaning the chauffeur, the car, fuel, 407 ETR tolls if used, airport commercial fees and the gratuity are inside the hourly rate. HST is added on top and shown as its own line.
| Vehicle | Seats / bags | Per hour, all-in + HST | Minimum | Minimum booking total | Per seat, per hour (full car) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | 3 / 3 | $120–145 | 3 h | $360–435 | about $40–48 |
| Business SUV | 5 / 5 | $145–175 | 3 h | $435–525 | about $29–35 |
| Executive SUV or luxury van | 6 / 6 | $190–235 | 3 h | $570–705 | about $32–39 |
| First-class sedan | 3 / 3 | $285–350 | 3 h | $855–1,050 | about $95–117 |
| Sprinter | 14 / 14 | $330–385 | 3 h | $990–1,155 | about $24–28 |
| Jet Sprinter (VIP lounge) | 7 / 5 | $650–750 | 3 h | $1,950–2,250 | about $93–107 |
| Stretch limousine (partner) | 8–10 | $350–450 | 4 h | $1,400–1,800 | about $35–56 |
| Rolls-Royce or Maybach (partner) | 3 | from $675 | 3 h | from $2,025 | from about $225 |
The per-seat column shows why groups often find a larger vehicle cheaper per person than a sedan. Stretch limousines, Rolls-Royces, party buses and coaches come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, and we say so on the booking.
Why chauffeur rates vary so much across Ontario
Two quotes for the "same" chauffeur can differ by half, and usually the gap is not the chauffeur. It is:
- The vehicle. A late-model S-Class costs far more to own, insure and maintain than a mid-size sedan. Our fleet is four model years or younger.
- Commercial insurance and licensing. Carrying passengers for hire needs commercial passenger insurance and, in Hamilton, a City limousine licence. Operators who skimp here can undercut; passengers carry the risk.
- What is bundled. Some quotes exclude gratuity (often added at 15–20 per cent), fuel surcharges, tolls, parking and administration fees. An all-in rate looks higher and ends up lower.
- How the clock runs. Some operators charge "garage to garage", from when the car leaves their base. Our clock starts at your scheduled pickup and stops at your final drop-off.
- Minimums. A low hourly rate with a 5-hour minimum can cost more than a higher rate with a 3-hour minimum.
The extras to check on any chauffeur quote
Use this checklist with any operator, including us:
- Is the gratuity included, or added as a percentage afterwards?
- Are fuel and 407 ETR tolls included?
- Does the clock start at pickup or when the car leaves the garage?
- What is the minimum, and how is time beyond it billed (full hours, 30-minute or 15-minute blocks)?
- Are airport or venue parking fees extra?
- Is HST shown separately and included in the final figure you are asked to approve?
- What is the cancellation policy, and from what time is it measured?
- Is the price fixed before you confirm, or estimated?
Our answers: gratuity, fuel, tolls and airport commercial fees are included; the clock runs pickup to drop-off; extra time is billed in 30-minute blocks; HST is shown as a line; cancellation is free more than 72 hours out, then 10 per cent inside 72 hours, 50 per cent inside 48 and 100 per cent inside 24 hours or on a no-show. The price is fixed before you pay.

Three worked examples of an hourly chauffeur's cost
A Toronto specialist appointment. A retired couple from Ancaster need a morning appointment near University Avenue in Toronto: about 70 km each way, 50–75 minutes depending on traffic. Two one-way fares would be $270–330 each way, but the return time is unknown. A 6-hour sedan booking at $720–870 covers both drives and the wait, however long the clinic runs.
An afternoon of meetings. A sales manager based in Burlington has three client meetings in Stoney Creek, Hamilton's west end and Brantford. The Brantford leg alone is about 40 km, 30–40 minutes from downtown Hamilton. A 5-hour sedan booking is $600–725, and the calls happen in the back seat.
An anniversary dinner. Two people, a first-class sedan, pickup in Dundas, dinner on James Street North, a drive along the waterfront afterwards: 3 hours at $285–350 per hour is $855–1,050. The same evening in a business sedan would be $360–435.
Hourly or one-way: what an hour actually buys
The table below sets the hourly rate against the one-way planning fares for common trips from downtown Hamilton, so you can see where hourly starts to make sense.
| Trip from downtown Hamilton | Distance and drive time | One-way sedan fare | Hourly equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burlington | 15 km, 15–25 min | $90–115 | 3 h minimum: $360–435 |
| Oakville | 40 km, 30–40 min | $145–175 | round trip + 2 h wait ≈ 4 h: $480–580 |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 70 km, 45–65 min | $245–300 | not worth it one way |
| Downtown Toronto / Union | 68 km, 50–75 min | $270–330 | round trip + 3 h ≈ 6 h: $720–870 |
| Niagara Falls | 70 km, 50–60 min | $230–280 | round trip + 3 h ≈ 5–6 h: $600–870 |
A rough rule: if the car would otherwise make two one-way trips and you will be somewhere for more than two hours in between, compare both. If there are three or more stops, hourly almost always wins. Our fare calculator prices one-way trips in seconds.
What a chauffeur costs per person
Split across a full car, an hourly chauffeur can cost less per person than a night of rideshares. Six friends in an SUV for 4 hours at $190–235 per hour pay $760–940, or roughly $125–155 each, for a car that waits outside every stop. Our post on limo cost per person shows how groups usually divide the bill fairly when not everyone rides the whole time.
When a chauffeur costs less than it seems
The hourly figure is not the only cost in the comparison. Driving yourself to Toronto for a day means fuel, 407 tolls if you take it, downtown parking that can run far higher than a suburban lot, and a day spent watching the road instead of working. For a couple going to dinner, the chauffeur also replaces two taxis and the argument about who stays sober. For a business traveller, an hour of productive time in the back seat is worth more than the hourly rate. The 407 ETR publishes its own toll schedule if you want to price that part of a self-drive day.
When a chauffeur is not the right spend
A chauffeur is not always the smart choice, and we would rather you knew:
- A solo commuter heading to Union Station at rush hour is well served by the GO Transit Lakeshore West train.
- A single short hop across town is cheaper as a one-way booking than an hourly minimum.
- If you will sit in one place for five hours with no stops, two one-way trips usually beat hourly.
Where hourly earns its money is a day with several stops, unknown waiting, luggage, children, older passengers or meetings.
Why stretch limousines and specialty cars cost more per hour
Stretch limousines, Rolls-Royces and party buses cost more to buy, insure and staff, and there are fewer of them. They also sit idle on weekdays and are booked solid on June Saturdays, so owners set longer minimums: 4 hours for a stretch limousine and 4–5 hours for a party bus. If you want the look without the price, a black executive SUV often does the job; see our stretch limo service page for what the partner vehicles offer.
Are chauffeur prices higher on busy nights?
Not with us. We do not surge on New Year's Eve, prom weekends, Ticats game days or wine-harvest Saturdays; the planning ranges above hold all year. What changes is availability, so book peak dates early. Whatever the date, the confirmed price is the price you pay.
Tax, tipping and receipts
HST at Ontario's harmonized rate is added to every fare and shown on its own line; the Government of Ontario explains the tax. Because the gratuity is already inside our all-in rate, you are not expected to tip, although some clients add something for an exceptional day. Customs vary by country; the general background on gratuities is worth a look if you are visiting from abroad. Receipts arrive by email with the HST line, ready for expense claims.
Local cities and hotels we price the same way
The same hourly figures apply whether your day starts in downtown Hamilton, on the Mountain or in Burlington. Hotel guests and concierges can book for a day directly; our Burlington hotels guide shows where cars meet guests at the door. For the minimum itself and how to fill it, read why limos have a 3-hour minimum; for a line-by-line breakdown of the rate, see what hourly limo rates include.
What a chauffeur costs for common occasions
Most hourly bookings fall into a handful of shapes, and each has a typical cost in our planning ranges:
- Wedding day, bride and bridal party: a stretch limousine for 4–5 hours at $350–450 per hour, so roughly $1,400–2,250, plus a sedan or SUV for parents if needed.
- Prom night: an SUV or stretch for 4 hours; six students in an executive SUV at $190–235 per hour pay $760–940 in total.
- Airport arrival plus errands: a family met at Pearson and taken via a pharmacy and a supermarket to their home in Stoney Creek fits a 4-hour SUV booking, $760–940.
- Hospital day: a 4-hour sedan booking for an appointment and the wait, $480–580.
- Corporate day: a first-class sedan for 8 hours at $285–350 per hour, $2,280–2,800.
Ask about the chauffeur, not just the price
The cheapest hourly rate is poor value if the chauffeur is late, lost or unlicensed. Before booking any operator, ask whether chauffeurs are licensed for passengers for hire in the city where they operate, whether the vehicle carries commercial passenger insurance, how chauffeurs are screened, and whether the company tracks flights and trains on pickups. A good operator answers all four without hesitation. Our own standards are set out on the chauffeurs page, and they apply whether you book three hours or ten.
