The Hamilton Convention Centre is at 1 Summers Lane in downtown Hamilton, beside King Street West, run by Carmens Group. Delegates arrive by GO train to the Hamilton GO Centre (roughly 1 km away), by car, or by air through Hamilton airport (15 km, 20–25 min, sedan $90–115) or Pearson (about 70 km, 45–65 min, $245–300), all-in plus HST.
Hamilton Convention Centre: where it is and how delegates arrive
For exhibitor cars, shuttles and invoicing, our convention and trade show car service page is the place to start. The Hamilton Convention Centre itself sits in the middle of downtown, which is its great advantage: hotels, restaurants, the GO Centre and the TD Coliseum are all within a short walk or a very short drive. This post is written for delegates and for the organisers who have to tell them how to get there. We go origin by origin, with honest advice on when the train or a walk beats a car.
The centre's own website is the authority on entrances, parking and building changes. When we checked on 30 September 2026 it noted that garage access through Summers Lane had closed from early September and that visitors should use the King Street entry. Things like that change, so organisers should link the centre's page in the delegate pack rather than copy it.
Planning fares and times from every origin
Business sedan, one way, all-in (chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, 407 tolls if used, airport fees, gratuity) with HST shown separately. A business SUV for up to five adds about 30 %, an executive SUV about 65 %, a 14-seat Sprinter is about 2.75 times the sedan figure, and a Jet Sprinter lounge for up to seven about 4.65 times.
| From | Distance | Drive time | Sedan planning range | Honest alternative |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hamilton airport (YHM) | about 15 km | 20–25 min | $90–115 | HSR bus; check the airport's transport page |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 70 km | 45–65 min | $245–300 | GO bus via the GO network; check routes |
| Billy Bishop (YTZ) | about 70 km | 55–80 min | $275–340 | Walk or taxi to Union, then GO train |
| Union Station Toronto | 68 km | 50–75 min | $270–330 | GO train to Hamilton GO Centre |
| Burlington | about 15 km | 15–25 min | $90–115 | GO from Aldershot or Burlington |
| Oakville | 40 km | 30–40 min | $145–175 | GO Lakeshore West |
| Kitchener-Waterloo / YKF | 70 km | 50–65 min | $220–270 | GO bus or car; check GO routes |
| St. Catharines | 55 km | 35–45 min | $175–215 | GO train on some trips; check times |
| Buffalo airport (BUF) | 105 km | 80–110 min | $375–465 | Bus services; border time extra |
For groups arriving together, a Sprinter from Pearson is about $675–825 one way and carries 14 people with bags, which often costs less than four separate sedans ($980–1,200).
Arriving by GO train
For delegates coming from Toronto, Oakville or Burlington, the train is a genuinely good option. The Hamilton GO Centre on Hunter Street is roughly a kilometre from the convention centre, a walk of 10–15 minutes through the core, or a 3–5 minute car ride with bags. Not every Lakeshore West train runs into the GO Centre; some terminate at West Harbour GO on James Street North or at Aldershot in Burlington, so delegates should check the exact train on GO Transit. From West Harbour the centre is about 2 km, a short car ride. A car makes sense on the station end when a delegate is carrying display materials or when the last train home has gone.

Arriving by air
YHM. John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport in Mount Hope is 15 km south via Upper James Street and the Linc. It is the closest airport by far; check flyhamilton.ca for current routes, because they change. Pearson. Most delegates land here, at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. The drive is about 70 km by the 403 or QEW, or the 407 when the lakeshore is slow; our Hamilton to Pearson page covers the road. Billy Bishop. Handy for delegates from Ottawa or Montreal on Porter; the car meets them at the mainland pavilion on Eireann Quay. On every flight pickup we track the flight and include 30 minutes of waiting on domestic and US arrivals and 60 minutes on other international arrivals, from actual landing.
Arriving by car and parking
Delegates driving themselves should check the centre's own parking page and the City of Hamilton's downtown parking information before the day. Downtown garages fill on event days, especially when a concert or game at TD Coliseum overlaps. A drop-off by chauffeured car avoids the garage entirely: the car stops at the entrance, the delegate walks in, and the car comes back at the agreed time.
Arriving by city bus
Hamilton Street Railway routes run through the downtown core along King and Main. For delegates staying on the Mountain or in the east end, HSR is a low-cost option; its trip planner gives the current route and times. With a suitcase or an exhibitor's kit, the bus gets awkward fast.
Delegates staying downtown: just walk
Several hotels are a few minutes on foot from the centre, and the Sheraton Hamilton connects to it. For delegates staying downtown, the honest advice is to walk. Cars matter at the ends of the trip: the airport or station run in, and the ride out. Our downtown Hamilton hotels page and our business hotels in downtown Hamilton post list the areas and lobby drop-offs.
Delegates staying in Burlington, Ancaster or Stoney Creek
When the hotel block overflows, delegates end up 10–20 km out. From Ancaster it is 10–15 km and 15–20 minutes to downtown; from Stoney Creek about the same; from Burlington about 15 km and 15–25 minutes. For those delegates, organisers either run a morning and evening Sprinter or budget one-way cars at $75–115 each way. The Sprinter wins as soon as eight or more people are staying in the same place.
Four delegate personas and what they should book
- The exhibitor from Kitchener with a booth kit. An executive SUV or luxury van, one way in the morning ($220–270 in a sedan; the van is about 50 % more and the SUV about 65 % more), and the same back after tear-down. See Kitchener-Waterloo.
- The keynote speaker landing at Pearson the night before. A first-class sedan with meet and greet, then an hourly car on speech day so the chauffeur waits during the session.
- The delegate from Toronto for one day. GO train in, walk to the centre, GO train home; a car only if the last train has gone.
- The local attendee from the Mountain. HSR or a one-way car at $75–100.

Evenings: receptions, concerts and the ride back
The centre is part of a downtown cluster that includes FirstOntario Concert Hall and, a few blocks north, the TD Coliseum. On a night when a big event lets out on York Boulevard, downtown streets slow and taxis vanish. For evening receptions, book return cars in advance and tell delegates where they will wait. Check TD Coliseum and FirstOntario Concert Hall for event nights when you set the programme; our TD Coliseum concerts page covers pickup points.
What to put in the delegate pack
- The centre's address, entrance and a link to its own directions page.
- Train advice: which GO trains reach the Hamilton GO Centre, and the walk.
- Airport advice: YHM first if routes suit, Pearson otherwise, with drive times.
- The shuttle timetable if you run one, with the pickup point at each hotel.
- How to book a car direct, and the booking reference or account to use.
- A phone number for the event's transport lead, not twenty chauffeurs.
Multi-day conferences, day by day
A three-day conference has a different transport shape each day. Day 0 is arrivals: a spread of flights into Pearson and YHM from mid-afternoon to late evening, best grouped into shared cars by arrival window. Day 1 has the heaviest morning: overflow-hotel shuttles, the keynote speaker's car and exhibitors arriving with kit before doors open. Day 2 is steady, with the evening reception or gala adding a return wave. The final day is departures, and it is the one organisers forget: afternoon sessions empty early as delegates leave for Pearson in the 3:30–6:30 pm peak, when 70 km can take 60–80 minutes. Publish a recommended leaving time for each airport in the delegate pack.
Timing the opening session
If registration opens at 7:30 am, the first shuttle from an overflow hotel should arrive at 7:15, not 7:30, because the registration queue is where delegates lose time. Speakers should arrive 45–60 minutes before their slot for sound checks. For delegates driving in from Oakville or Burlington, the QEW and 403 westbound into Hamilton are usually lighter than eastbound in the morning, but lake-effect snow changes that in winter.
Accessibility
Delegates who can transfer to a seat are easy: chauffeurs fold and stow wheelchairs and walkers. Our fleet has no ramp-equipped vehicles, so for delegates who travel seated in a wheelchair we refer the organiser to a specialist accessible provider and coordinate timings. Ask about accessibility on the registration form so it is planned, not improvised at the curb.
Winter conferences
Conferences from November to March meet lake-effect snow on the QEW and the Skyway and ice on the Mountain accesses. Delegates driving from Niagara or Toronto should allow extra time, and organisers should put a weather note in the pack. For cars we book, dispatch checks the forecast the night before and leaves earlier; a morning session at 8:30 means a Pearson pickup that may start before 6:30.
Exhibitors: move-in and tear-down days
Exhibitors have the least predictable days of anyone at a conference. Move-in usually happens the afternoon or evening before opening, through a loading area the centre assigns, and tear-down starts the moment the last session ends. A van or Sprinter on an hourly booking covers both: it carries booth kit and banner stands from the hotel or the office, waits while the team sets up, and comes back for tear-down without anyone having to re-book. Freight on pallets belongs with the show's official freight contractor, not in a passenger vehicle.
Booking delegate transport direct
Individual delegates can book on HamiltonLimo.net's reservation engine and see the fixed all-in fare before confirming. Organisers moving many people can send the delegate list and have a coordinator price arrivals, shuttles and hourly cars in writing on one invoice. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before each pickup, then 10 %, 50 % and 100 % at 72, 48 and 24 hours. See corporate event transportation for galas held alongside a conference.
