Where we drive

From Hamilton, every day: typical distance and drive time, fixed fare before you book. All routes →

A family airport pickup to Hamilton means a chauffeur who tracks the flight, waits at the terminal, loads every bag and drives your relatives home with car seats already fitted. HamiltonLimo.net planning figures from Toronto Pearson are about $245–300 in a business sedan and $370–495 in an SUV or van, all-in plus HST; Hamilton airport YHM is $90–115. For reunion days with several stops, book by the hour.

Picking up family at the airport: what the booking includes

A family arrival is a different job from a business pickup. There are more people, more suitcases, often a child or an elderly passenger, and sometimes nobody in the group has been to Canada before. The fixed all-in fare covers the vehicle, the chauffeur, fuel, 407 tolls if used, airport pickup fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. Flight tracking is standard, so the chauffeur's timing follows the actual landing, not the schedule you booked against.

Included waiting starts at actual landing: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on all other international arrivals. After that, waiting is added in 15-minute blocks, and dispatch will message you before it starts. For families arriving on long-haul flights with a slow baggage hall and customs queue, the 60 minutes usually covers it; if you know the airport is busy that day, add meet and greet and a little extra time at booking.

Which airport are your relatives flying into?

  • Toronto Pearson (YYZ), in Mississauga, handles most long-haul international flights. Check whether the flight uses Terminal 1 or Terminal 3; the booking needs the right one. Details on our Toronto Pearson airport limo page.
  • Hamilton airport (YHM), in Mount Hope about 15 km south of downtown, has a smaller passenger schedule that changes by season; check flyhamilton.ca for current routes. If a relative's itinerary can connect to YHM, the last leg home is 20–25 minutes. See Hamilton airport YHM.
  • Billy Bishop (YTZ), on the Toronto Island, for Porter and Air Canada flights within Canada and to some US cities. Passengers walk through the pedestrian tunnel to the mainland pavilion, where the car waits.
  • Buffalo Niagara (BUF), across the border, sometimes has cheaper fares from US connections. It adds a border crossing; see below and our Buffalo airport page.

Waiting time and delayed flights

Flight tracking means a two-hour delay is not your problem: the chauffeur adjusts the arrival automatically and the included waiting starts from actual landing. If the flight is diverted or cancelled, dispatch contacts you to rebook rather than sending a car to an empty terminal.

The slow part of an international arrival is inside the terminal: immigration, baggage, customs. A family with several checked bags and a stroller often takes 45–75 minutes from landing to the doors at Pearson. Ask your relatives to message you (and you forward to the chauffeur) when they have their bags. It is the single most useful text of the day.

Curbside pickup or meet and greet inside arrivals

The fare includes curbside pickup at the terminal's commercial pickup area, where licensed vehicles are allowed to stop. The chauffeur does not come into the terminal by default.

For relatives who do not speak English, grandparents travelling alone, or anyone arriving for the first time, the optional meet and greet (planning figure $25–35) is worth it: the chauffeur waits inside arrivals with a name board, helps with the trolley and walks the family to the car. Send the chauffeur a recent photograph of the arriving passenger if you can; faces in an arrivals hall after a 14-hour flight look very alike.

Choosing a vehicle by headcount and suitcases

The mistake families make is booking by seats and forgetting luggage. Relatives arriving for a month bring two large suitcases each, plus gifts.

  • Business sedan: 3 passengers, about 3 bags. Fine for a couple with carry-ons and one checked case each.
  • Business SUV: 5 passengers, about 5 bags; a black Tahoe or Yukon at close to sedan money, about $320–390 from Pearson, with winter traction.
  • Executive SUV: 6 passengers, about 6 bags; the third row reduces cargo space when every seat is used. See the executive SUV.
  • Luxury van: 6 passengers, about 6 bags, with sliding doors that make car seats and elderly passengers easier. See the luxury van.
  • Sprinter: up to 14 passengers and 14 bags, for a whole side of the family arriving together.

If in doubt, send dispatch the passenger count and the number of large suitcases. Two business SUVs leaving the airport together can still come in a little under one Sprinter for a group of seven or eight; two executive SUVs usually cost more.

Car seats for grandchildren and young cousins

Add infant seats, convertible seats and boosters at booking, planning figure $10–15 each, so they are installed before the chauffeur leaves for the airport. Give each child's age and approximate weight so the right seat is fitted. You may also bring your own seat; the chauffeur will help install it, but the parent should check the fit.

Car-seat rules and choosing the right seat for a child's size are explained on the Government of Ontario child car seat page. Strollers fold into the trunk; mention them when you book so the luggage count is right.

Relatives arriving through Buffalo: the border

Families sometimes fly into Buffalo Niagara International Airport, about 105 km and 80–110 minutes from Hamilton, crossing into Canada at the Peace Bridge, the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge or the Rainbow Bridge. Everyone in the vehicle needs valid documents to enter Canada at the land border: a passport for most travellers, and whatever visa or permit their nationality requires. The electronic travel authorization (eTA) is required for visa-exempt travellers flying into Canada, not for those arriving by land; check the Government of Canada eTA page and CBSA for the current rules before choosing the route.

Border wait times vary through the day; the Peace Bridge publishes current conditions. Our crossing the border by limo guide explains what happens at the booth.

The reunion day: a multi-stop hourly booking

Many families do not want a transfer; they want a day. Grandparents land at Pearson, stop to see an aunt in Mississauga, drop bags at a hotel in Burlington, then go on to a family dinner in Stoney Creek. Four one-way fares would cost more and require four dispatches. One hourly chauffeur booking in Hamilton covers the whole loop with the luggage staying in the vehicle.

A sample reunion day, executive SUV:

  • 1:40 p.m. International flight lands at Pearson Terminal 3; chauffeur waiting (60 minutes included).
  • 2:50 p.m. Family out with bags; drive to Mississauga (about 15 km, 20–25 minutes) for a short visit.
  • 4:15 p.m. On to a Burlington hotel (about 45 km, 35–45 minutes on the QEW), check in.
  • 5:30 p.m. Drive to Stoney Creek for dinner (about 30 km, 25–30 minutes over the Skyway).
  • 9:00 p.m. Back to the hotel.

That is about 7.5 hours in an executive SUV, a planning figure of roughly $1,425–1,765 all-in plus HST.

Elderly relatives after a long-haul flight

A 13-hour flight is hard at any age and harder at 80. The chauffeur helps with the trolley, the step into the vehicle and the seatbelt, and keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature. A folding wheelchair or walker travels in the trunk. If a relative will use the airline's wheelchair assistance through the terminal, book meet and greet so the chauffeur can take over from the airline agent at the arrivals door.

Our vehicles are not ramp-equipped; relatives who cannot transfer to a seat need a specialist accessible provider, and we will say so plainly. Water, a stop for a washroom on the way home and a quiet ride are all available on request.

Two flights, one reunion: staggered arrivals

Siblings flying from different cities often land hours apart, sometimes at different airports. Dispatch can handle this two ways: separate one-way pickups timed to each flight, or one hourly booking where the chauffeur collects the first arrival, waits with them at a café in the terminal area or drives them home, then returns for the second. When the gap is under two hours, hourly usually wins; when it is half a day, separate pickups do. Send all flight numbers in one booking and dispatch will price both options.

Reunion weekends: dinners, visits and a day out

After the arrival, reunion weekends fill up. Families book a chauffeur for a Saturday of visiting: a cemetery visit in the morning, lunch in Dundas, an afternoon at Niagara Falls, dinner back in Hamilton. The Royal Botanical Gardens and the waterfront are gentle outings for older relatives; African Lion Safari suits the grandchildren. Visitors can plan the rest of their stay with Tourism Hamilton.

For large gatherings (weddings, milestone birthdays, funerals) guest shuttles between hotels and venues can be run in Sprinters, and larger coaches come from partner operators, priced in writing by a coordinator.

Departure day

The return trip needs a bit more margin than the arrival. For international departures from Pearson, leave Hamilton about three and a half to four hours before the flight on a weekday afternoon, when the QEW and the 403 through Oakville and Mississauga are at their slowest; a little less on a Sunday morning. For YHM, 20–25 minutes from downtown, follow the airline's check-in advice and add a buffer. Book the departure at the same time as the arrival so the family knows it is settled.

Booking for relatives from anywhere

The person booking does not have to be the person travelling. Book and pay online from anywhere, add each passenger's name as it appears on their passport, the flight numbers, a mobile number that will work in Canada (or a messaging contact you can relay), the destination address and the car seat details. The confirmation shows the fixed all-in price with HST separate, and the chauffeur's details are sent before pickup. If relatives still need flights or a hotel, our travel desk can arrange them.

Changes and cancellation

Flight changes are the norm with family travel. Update the booking as soon as a new flight is confirmed; the chauffeur follows the new flight number. Cancellation, measured from scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours before, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10 %; 48 hours or less, 50 %; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100 %. A flight cancelled by the airline and rebooked is handled as a change, not a no-show, when you tell dispatch.

Do you provide car seats for children?

Yes. Add infant seats, convertible seats or boosters at booking, planning figure $10–15 each, with each child's age and approximate weight so the right seat is installed before pickup. You may bring your own seat instead; the chauffeur will help install it, but a parent should check the fit.

How long will the driver wait if the flight is late?

Will the chauffeur meet my parents inside the terminal?

Only if you add meet and greet. The standard fare is curbside pickup at the terminal's commercial pickup area. Meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is an optional add-on, planning figure $25–35, recommended for elderly relatives, first-time visitors or anyone who does not speak English.

What vehicle do we need for 5 people and lots of luggage?

An executive SUV or luxury van carries 6 passengers and about 6 bags, which suits five people with one large case each. Can relatives flying into Buffalo be driven to Hamilton?

Yes. Buffalo Niagara airport is about 105 km and 80–110 minutes from Hamilton, and the business sedan fare is about $375–465 all-in plus HST. Every passenger needs valid documents to enter Canada at the land border; check CBSA and Government of Canada entry rules for their nationality before choosing this route.

Can I book an airport pickup for my family from overseas?

Yes. Book and pay online from anywhere, entering each passenger's name as on their passport, the flight numbers, a reachable contact number and the destination. The confirmation shows the fixed all-in price, and the chauffeur's details are sent before pickup. Flight changes can be updated online or with dispatch.
