African Lion Safari is about 35 km and 35–45 minutes from downtown Hamilton, at 1386 Cooper Road (a Cambridge mailing address on the rural west side of Flamborough). A HamiltonLimo.net sedan one way is a planning figure of $125–165 all-in plus HST. Our car drops you at the park; the usual way to see the drive-through reserves is your own vehicle or the park's Safari Tour Bus.
African Lion Safari car service: the honest answer first
People ask us one question more than any other about this trip: can the limo drive through the lion reserve? Here is what we know. African Lion Safari runs 9 km of drive-through game reserves, and its published vehicle rules exclude convertibles, soft tops, vehicles with cracked windows or unsecured rooftop carriers, and any vehicle carrying pets. Limousines and chauffeured commercial vehicles are not named on that page. Because the decision rests with the park, and because a stretch limousine or party bus is the wrong shape for game-reserve roads anyway, HamiltonLimo.net does not take chauffeured vehicles through the reserves as a standard service. Our plan is a comfortable drop-off and pickup at the park, with guests riding the park's own Safari Tour Bus, which the park sells on site. If you want our sedan or SUV to drive the reserves, tell us at booking and our dispatcher will ask the park in writing first; if the answer is no, we will not do it. Read the park's rules on lionsafari.com.
Planning fares to African Lion Safari
Business sedan, all-in (chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, gratuity, any 407 tolls) with HST separate. The engine quotes the exact fare for your address, date and vehicle before you confirm.
| From | Sedan, one way | Distance | Drive time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Hamilton | $125–165 | about 35 km | 35–45 min |
| Waterdown | $95–120 | about 22 km | 20–30 min |
| Burlington | $125–165 | about 35 km | 30–40 min |
| Ancaster | $120–150 | about 30 km | 30–40 min |
| Oakville | $175–215 | about 55 km | 40–50 min |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | $265–325 | about 80 km | 50–70 min |
| Hourly: sedan / SUV / Sprinter | $120–145 / $190–235 / $330–385 per hour | 3 h minimum | vehicle waits |
For a family of five the business SUV (a Tahoe or Yukon, up to five passengers and five bags) is about 30 % above the sedan, roughly $165–215 one way from downtown; for six, the executive SUV (about 65 % above sedan) is the usual pick; a Sprinter runs about 2.75 times the sedan figure and carries fourteen, and the Jet Sprinter, a VIP lounge for up to seven, runs about 4.65 times. A return trip with the car waiting all day is normally priced hourly, and a one-way-out, one-way-back pair is often cheaper if you plan to stay five hours or more. Our dispatcher will tell you which works out lower when you book.
Where the car drops off and picks up
The chauffeur drives to the park entrance and sets you down in the main visitor area near admissions and the Safari Bazaar, as the park directs arriving vehicles. From downtown Hamilton the usual route is the 403 west to Highway 6 north, then west on Highway 8 and the rural roads toward Rockton; from Burlington it is Highway 6 north through Waterdown. On busy summer weekends the entrance road can queue in the late morning, so we plan arrival for opening time where possible. For the return, you message the chauffeur from the visitor area; on hourly bookings the car waits in the parking area, and on two one-way bookings we agree a pickup time in advance with a buffer.
How long to allow
The park's FAQ says the 9 km of game reserves take about one to one and a half hours to drive through. Add the walk-through areas, animal presentations, a boat cruise if running, lunch and the gift shop, and most families spend five to six hours on site. That is why many parents book the car out and back separately rather than paying for a vehicle to sit in the lot all afternoon. The park operates seasonally, and its season and daily hours change from year to year, including shoulder-season days in the autumn, so confirm dates and admission on the official site before booking. We do not print them here.

Best times and seasons
The park's main season runs from spring into early autumn, with a quieter tail of select dates after that. Weekday visits in June, before school ends, are the most relaxed. July and August weekends are the busiest and hottest; arriving at opening time means cooler animals and a shorter entrance queue. From our side, Friday afternoon traffic on the 403 heading west can slow the return, and summer Sunday evenings bring cottage traffic on Highway 6. A light rain does not close the reserves (the park says they run rain or shine), and wet days often mean smaller crowds.
Families: car seats, snacks and a long day
This is our most family-heavy attraction. Infant, convertible and booster seats can be added at booking for a planning figure of $10–15 each, installed before pickup. An executive SUV seats six with a stroller in the back; a luxury van is easier to climb into for grandparents. Pets are not permitted in the reserves or on park property, per the park's FAQ, so leave the dog at home. We suggest packing sunscreen, hats and water, and keeping a clean change of clothes in the car for the ride home; the chauffeur keeps the cabin cool while you are inside.

Groups, birthday parties and school trips
A Sprinter takes up to fourteen with bags and is the most economical way to move a birthday party, a youth team or a small school group without chartering a full coach. Larger groups can use partner coaches of 24–56 seats from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, priced in writing by a coordinator. For big groups, remember that the park sells Safari Tour Bus seats on site; ask the park about group booking before the day. See Sprinter group transportation for capacities and rules.
Sample itinerary: safari morning, Waterdown lunch, falls on the way home
Booked as two one-way rides in an executive SUV, or as a full hourly day if you prefer the car on standby:
- 8:45 am pickup in downtown Hamilton; about 35 km, 40 minutes via the 403 and Highway 6.
- 9:30 am–2:00 pm African Lion Safari, with the reserves on the Safari Tour Bus.
- 2:10 pm about 15 km, 20 minutes, to Waterdown for a late lunch.
- 3:30 pm about 12 km, 20 minutes, to Webster's or Tew's Falls near Dundas for a short walk (check parking rules with Hamilton Conservation Authority first).
- 4:30 pm about 10 km back to downtown Hamilton.
The falls stop is covered in more detail on our Hamilton waterfalls page, and the Waterdown area on Waterdown and Flamborough.
Coming from Toronto or Pearson
Visitors flying into Toronto Pearson sometimes head straight to the park. The run is about 80 km and 50–70 minutes depending on traffic, via the 401 or 407 and then Highway 6; 407 tolls are included in the fixed fare when used. We track the flight, include 30 minutes of waiting on domestic and US arrivals and 60 minutes on other international arrivals, and pick up curbside at the commercial pickup area unless you add meet and greet. Luggage for a family of five fits in an executive SUV; more than that, choose a Sprinter. Our Pearson airport page covers terminal pickup in detail.
Accessibility
The park rents wheelchairs and wagons at Guest Services in the Safari Bazaar, according to its website, and publishes a full accessibility policy. Our chauffeurs help guests in and out, fold and stow manual chairs and walkers, and drop at the closest point the park allows. We do not have ramp-equipped wheelchair-accessible vehicles in our fleet; if someone must travel seated in a power chair, tell us at booking and we will point you to the right option honestly.
Why not a stretch limo or party bus?
We get this request for birthday parties. A stretch limousine or party bus (both from partner operators) can certainly take a group to the park gate and home again, and that part is fine. What it should not do is try the game reserves: these are long, low vehicles on narrow gravel-and-paved loops shared with animals and slow family traffic, and the park's rules are the park's call. If the celebration is the point, book the partner limo for the ride and the Safari Tour Bus for the animals. Our party bus rental page explains minimums and partner pricing.
Working out the cost of a safari day
Here is how the numbers usually fall for a family of five from downtown Hamilton in an executive SUV. Two one-way rides, out in the morning and back in the afternoon, run at about 55–65 % above the sedan range of $125–165 each way, so roughly $195–265 per leg and $390–530 for the day plus HST. Keeping the SUV on standby for six hours at $190–235 per hour comes to $1,140–1,410 which only makes sense if you want to leave at a moment's notice or add stops. For a Sprinter group the same logic applies at a larger scale. Our dispatcher shows both options side by side in the booking notes so you can choose.
What to keep in the car
Because the car waits or returns later, you can leave a cooler bag, spare clothes, a stroller you do not need inside, and shopping from the gift shop in the vehicle. The chauffeur keeps it locked and shaded. Bring only what you need into the park. If anyone gets car-sick on winding rural roads, sit them in the front row of the SUV and tell the chauffeur; the route through Flamborough has some rolling sections.
Driving conditions on the way
The route west of Waterdown is rural two-lane highway, with farm vehicles in spring and autumn and slower traffic around Rockton. Morning fog in the valleys is common in September. Chauffeurs know the road and allow for it, and dispatch checks 511 Ontario for incidents on the 403 and Highway 6 before sending the car. Winter is not a factor here because the park's season ends before the snow.
Combining the safari with other stops
Few people want a second attraction after five hours of animals, but a relaxed dinner is popular. Downtown Dundas is about 20 km back toward Hamilton; Burlington's lakefront is about 35 km. Some out-of-town families add Royal Botanical Gardens the next day and book both through one account. For a full weekend plan see our first-time visitor guide to Hamilton.
