London, Ontario to Pearson airport is about 190 km and usually 2 to 2.5 hours by road on Highway 401. The options are the scheduled Robert Q Airbus shuttle, VIA Rail to Union Station plus the UP Express to Terminal 1, driving and parking, or a private car. A HamiltonLimo.net business sedan from London to Pearson is a planning estimate of about $550–675 all-in plus HST.
London, Ontario to Pearson airport: the four real options
London sits on the 401 about 190 km south-west of Toronto Pearson. Most Londoners fly from Pearson because it has the widest choice of routes, even though London International Airport (YXU) is on the edge of the city. Our Hamilton to London, Ontario car service page covers the London end of our network; this post compares every way to get from London to Pearson, because the right answer depends on how many of you travel, how much you carry and what time the flight leaves.
The four choices:
- Robert Q Airbus, a scheduled shuttle between London and Pearson with several departures a day.
- VIA Rail to Union Station, then the UP Express from Union to Pearson Terminal 1.
- Drive yourself and park at the airport.
- A private car, door to door, booked at a fixed price.
Option 1: the scheduled airport shuttle
Robert Q runs an airport shuttle between London and Toronto Pearson, from its depot on Wharncliffe Road South and other pickup points, with roughly eight departures each way a day and a scheduled journey of a little over two hours. Fares are per person, with child and senior pricing; check the current timetable and prices on the Robert Q site. For one or two travellers with ordinary luggage it is the obvious budget choice. The trade-offs: fixed departure times that may not match an early or late flight, a pickup point rather than your door (home pickup inside London costs extra), and a shared vehicle that may stop elsewhere.
Option 2: VIA Rail and the UP Express
VIA Rail runs between London and Toronto's Union Station several times a day; check VIA Rail for the current timetable. At Union, the UP Express runs to Pearson Terminal 1 in about 25 minutes. The train is comfortable and predictable in winter, and you can work on board. The weak points are the connection at Union with luggage, the walk between the VIA concourse and the UP Express platform, and the fact that the UP Express only serves Terminal 1 directly; Terminal 3 passengers take the airport's Terminal Link train between terminals. Door to door, allow 3.5 hours or more.
Option 3: drive and park
Driving yourself is quick at the right hour and flexible, but parking at Pearson is charged by the day; rates for each lot are on the Toronto Pearson site. For a weekend trip the maths often favours driving. For a two-week holiday, the parking alone can rival a private transfer, and you face a 2-hour drive home after a long flight.
Option 4: a private car door to door
| Vehicle | Passengers / bags | London ON to Pearson, one way (planning) | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | 3 / 3 | about $550–675 | about 190 km | 2–2.5 h |
| Business SUV | 5 / 5 | about $715–880 | about 190 km | 2–2.5 h |
| Executive SUV or luxury van | 6 / 6 | about $860–1,085 | about 190 km | 2–2.5 h |
| First-class sedan | 3 / 3 | about $1,740–2,135 | about 190 km | 2–2.5 h |
| Sprinter | 14 / 14 | about $1,510–1,850 | about 190 km | 2.25–2.75 h |
| Jet Sprinter | 7 / 5 | about $2,560–3,140 | about 190 km | 2–2.5 h |
These are planning estimates, all-in plus HST (chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, 407 tolls if used, airport fees, gratuity). The reservation engine quotes the exact fixed fare for your London address, date and vehicle before you confirm. For comparison, Hamilton to London is a planning $415–500 for about 130 km, and Hamilton to Pearson $245–300 for about 70 km.

Side-by-side: what each option really costs
| Option | Door to door | Changes | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airport shuttle | 2.5–3 h | 0–1 | 1–2 people, normal bags | Fixed departures; pickup point |
| VIA + UP Express | 3.5 h+ | 2 | Solo travellers, winter reliability | Luggage at Union; T3 needs the Terminal Link |
| Drive and park | 2–2.5 h | 0 | Short trips | Daily parking; tired drive home |
| Private car | 2–2.5 h | 0 | Families, groups, early or late flights | Price per vehicle, not per person |
When the private car wins
Per person, the shuttle is cheapest for one traveller. The picture changes with numbers. Four people sharing an executive SUV at the top of its planning range pay about $270 each; add the shuttle's home-pickup surcharge or the taxi to the London station, and the gap narrows, although the shuttle stays cheaper. The car also wins on:
- Very early flights, when the first scheduled departures reach Pearson too late for a 7 a.m. check-in.
- Late arrivals, especially international flights that land after the last shuttle.
- Children and car seats (a planning $10–15 each, added at booking).
- Older travellers who struggle with station stairs and platform gaps.
- Oversized bags: skis, golf clubs, a wheelchair that folds into the trunk. Our own fleet has no ramp vehicles; for passengers who can transfer to a seat the chauffeur stows the chair, and for ramp transport we refer you to a specialist provider.
Leave-by times from London for a Pearson flight
| Flight leaves Pearson | Suggested pickup in London |
|---|---|
| 6:00–8:00 a.m., Canada or US | 4 h 30 min before departure |
| 6:00–8:00 a.m., overseas | 5 h before |
| 10 a.m.–2 p.m. | 4 h 15 min before |
| 3:00–6:30 p.m. | 4 h 30 min before (Toronto afternoon traffic) |
| Evening | 4 h before |
The 401 between London and Woodstock crosses open farmland where winter squalls can drop visibility suddenly, and closures follow collisions; add at least 45 minutes on a bad-weather day and check Ontario 511.
The route: 401 all the way, or via Hamilton
The standard route is Highway 401 east past Woodstock, Cambridge and Milton, then the 401 or 407 into the airport. When the 401 is closed or crawling near Cambridge, the chauffeur can switch to Highway 403 through Brantford and Hamilton and approach Pearson from the south-west. The fixed fare does not change if the route does. That flexibility is one thing a scheduled shuttle cannot offer.
Flying home: Pearson to London
For the return, the chauffeur tracks your flight and waits in the terminal's commercial pickup area; waiting is included for 30 minutes after actual landing on Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes on other international arrivals. Meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is an optional add-on at a planning $25–35. Our post on where to meet your driver at Pearson arrivals explains the pickup zones, and Pearson Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 helps you work out which terminal you land at.

Should you fly from London (YXU) instead?
London International Airport has a smaller schedule that changes by season; check flyyxu.ca for current airlines and destinations. If a YXU flight suits your trip, it removes the 190 km drive entirely. Compare the whole trip, airfare plus ground transport, before you book. Our London airport (YXU) page covers the terminal.
Picking up family on the way
A private car can make stops that a shuttle cannot. A common booking: collect a parent in Woodstock or Brantford, then continue to Pearson. Another: a London family flying with grandparents who live in Hamilton, picked up on the way. Each stop is priced into the fixed fare. See our Woodstock and Brantford pages for those towns.
The night before: stay at a Pearson hotel?
For a 6 a.m. flight, a 1:30 a.m. pickup in London is hard on everyone. Some families ride to a Pearson airport hotel the evening before and take the hotel shuttle in the morning. A car to the hotel costs about the same as a car to the terminal, and you sleep near the runway.
Business travellers: working the 401
For a London executive, two hours in a quiet back seat is two hours of calls and email. Some clients book the car hourly for a Toronto day: London to a morning meeting in Mississauga, then Pearson for an afternoon flight, with the chauffeur waiting between. Our lead product is exactly that hourly private chauffeur: a business sedan at a planning $120–145 an hour, 3-hour minimum. See hourly chauffeur service and corporate car service.
Students at Western and Fanshawe flying home
Every December and April, London's campuses empty toward Pearson. A student with one suitcase does best on the shuttle or the train. The car makes sense when several students share it: four friends from the same residence, all on evening flights from Terminal 1, split a van and arrive together with every bag. Parents collecting a student at the end of the year often go the other way, flying into Pearson and booking a car to London for the move-out, with a boot full of boxes on the way home. Tell us about boxes, a mini-fridge or a bike when you book so the right vehicle turns up; an executive SUV or luxury van carries far more than a sedan.
Overseas arrivals heading to London
International passengers landing at Pearson after a long-haul flight often underestimate the last leg. After immigration, baggage and customs, a 2-hour-plus shuttle or a train change at Union is a lot to ask, especially with children or older relatives. A private car waits with 60 minutes of included waiting from actual landing on international arrivals, and the chauffeur can stop at an ONroute service centre on the 401 for food and washrooms. For relatives visiting London for the first time, add meet and greet inside the arrivals hall so someone is holding their name when they come through the doors.
Mistakes to avoid on the London to Pearson run
- Booking the last shuttle for an evening flight. A delay on the 401 leaves no margin.
- Assuming the UP Express serves every terminal. It goes to Terminal 1; check your terminal first.
- Leaving winter trips to the morning. Watch the forecast the day before and move the pickup earlier if squalls are expected.
- Forgetting car seats. Shuttles and trains do not supply them; add them to a private car booking.
