Caledonia to Hamilton is about 25 km and 25 to 30 minutes by car, north on Highway 6 past Hamilton airport and down the Mountain into the city. There is no regular public bus between Caledonia and Hamilton at present, so most people drive, get a lift or book a car. A HamiltonLimo.net business sedan to downtown Hamilton is a planning $95–120, and Hamilton airport (YHM) $80–105, all-in plus HST.
Caledonia to Hamilton: the Highway 6 trip
Caledonia sits on the Grand River in Haldimand County, and almost everything it needs from the city (hospitals, specialists, the airport, the GO trains, a big night out) lies straight up Highway 6. Our Caledonia and Haldimand car service page covers fares to every airport and destination; this post is about the Caledonia to Hamilton trip itself, for people who do not drive, should not drive that day, or would rather not.
The drive is simple. Highway 6 runs north from Caledonia across open farmland, past the Hamilton airport at Mount Hope, and meets the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway (the Linc) and Upper James Street. From there you are on the Mountain, the upper city; the lower city and downtown are reached by one of the mountain accesses such as the Claremont Access or James Mountain Road.
Is there a bus from Caledonia to Hamilton?
Not a regular one, as of September 2026. A private operator ran a weekday van route linking Haldimand County towns to downtown Hamilton from September 2024, but it was suspended in December 2024. The HSR does not serve Caledonia, and there is no GO service. Haldimand County is the place to check for any new community transit, and the HSR lists Hamilton routes if you can get to the city's edge.
That leaves four real options: drive yourself, ask family or a neighbour, take a local taxi, or book a private car. The rest of this post helps you plan the last two.

The hospital day from Caledonia
The trip we run most often from Caledonia is a medical one: a specialist at the Juravinski Hospital on Concession Street, a scan at Hamilton General, a clinic at St. Joseph's or a child's appointment at McMaster Children's. These days are unpredictable. Appointments run late, one test leads to another, and nobody wants to be standing in a lobby waiting for a ride home.
That is where the hourly private chauffeur, our lead product, makes sense. A business sedan is a planning $120–145 an hour, all-in plus HST, with a 3-hour minimum; a luxury van is similar in feel to an SUV with an easy step-in. The chauffeur drops you at the entrance, waits nearby, and collects you when you text. A 4-hour sedan booking is $480–580, compared with $190–240 for two one-way sedan rides; hourly costs more but removes the uncertainty on a long day. For a short, predictable appointment, two one-way rides are the cheaper choice, and dispatch will say so. Read our medical appointments page and the post on getting a ride home after day surgery.

A day in the city without the car
Not every trip is medical. Caledonia residents book cars for the things that are awkward to do with your own vehicle in the city:
- Shopping on the Mountain and downtown, with bags loaded by the chauffeur and nobody circling for parking.
- Lunch or dinner on James Street North, Locke Street or in Hess Village, with a glass of wine and no drive home. Our best places to eat in Hamilton post has ideas.
- A show or a game: TD Coliseum concerts at 101 York Boulevard, Tiger-Cats and Forge FC at Hamilton Stadium (the former Tim Hortons Field), or a performance at FirstOntario Concert Hall.
- A family visit in the lower city, with an older parent who no longer drives at night.
An evening like that is often cheapest booked as two one-way rides if you will be somewhere for three hours or more; if you want the car to move you between dinner and a show, book hourly.
Nights out: the safe way home to Caledonia
Highway 6 at night is dark, fast and busy with trucks, and it is no place for a tired or impaired driver. A pre-booked return from a restaurant or venue, with the pickup spot confirmed in writing, is the simplest way to make sure everyone gets home. For a group of up to six, an executive SUV splits the fare six ways; for a birthday or a bachelorette, see limo for a night out in Hamilton.
Caledonia to Hamilton airport (YHM)
YHM is the closest airport to Caledonia by far, about 15 km and 15 to 20 minutes up Highway 6. For a departure, the chauffeur drops you at the terminal door. For an arrival, the flight is tracked and the fare includes curbside pickup at the commercial pickup area; waiting is 30 minutes after actual landing on Canadian domestic and US flights and 60 minutes on other international arrivals. Airlines and routes at YHM change by season; check flyhamilton.ca. Our Hamilton airport YHM page has the terminal details.
Caledonia to the GO trains and Toronto
For a day in Toronto, a common plan is a car from Caledonia to the Hamilton GO Centre on Hunter Street or West Harbour GO, then the train to Union Station; see GO Transit for times. The car leg is about 25 km and a planning $95–120. If you would rather go door to door, our Hamilton to Union Station route covers the full run; from Caledonia it is about 90 km and a planning $320–390.
Timing the trip into Hamilton
| Leaving Caledonia | To downtown Hamilton | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday 7–9 a.m. | 30–40 min | Upper James and the accesses are busy with commuters |
| Weekday midday | 25–30 min | The easiest window |
| Weekday 3:30–6 p.m. | 30–40 min | Traffic heading up the Mountain and along the Linc |
| Evenings and weekends | 25–30 min | Event nights add time downtown |
| Snow or freezing rain | add 15–30 min | Open farmland drifts; the accesses can be slow |
Winter on Highway 6
Between Caledonia and Mount Hope, Highway 6 crosses open fields where snow drifts across the road and whiteouts come quickly. Then the drive into the lower city uses a mountain access, which can be slow on icy mornings. On storm days the dispatch desk sets an earlier pickup and the chauffeur chooses the access that is ploughed and moving. Road conditions are on Ontario 511.

Standing bookings for regular trips
Some Caledonia clients go to Hamilton every week, for dialysis, physiotherapy, work or to see a relative in care. A standing booking (the same pickup on the same days) is set up once and adjusted as the schedule changes. Families sometimes book on behalf of a parent and receive the confirmation themselves. Our post on a personal driver for seniors explains how families organise it.
Choosing the vehicle
- Business sedan: one to three passengers with light bags.
- Business SUV: up to five passengers and five bags; a black Tahoe or Yukon at close to sedan money, with winter traction, about $125–155 one way to downtown Hamilton.
- Luxury van: older passengers, easier entry, a folding wheelchair or walker in the back. Our fleet has no ramp vehicles; for passengers who cannot transfer to a seat we refer you to a specialist accessible provider.
- Executive SUV: families, winter, sports bags.
- Sprinter: groups of up to 14 for a wedding, a team or a staff event. See the Sprinter.
- Jet Sprinter: a VIP lounge Sprinter for up to seven, with captain's chairs and work tables; $650–750 an hour.
Child seats are available at a planning $10–15 each, added at booking.
Where the chauffeur picks up in Caledonia
Caledonia is split by the Grand River, with older streets near Argyle Street and the bridge and newer subdivisions spreading north and south of the river. Rural addresses outside town use fire numbers that are easy to miss in the dark. Put the full address, the fire number if there is one, and a note about the driveway or the side door in the booking. The chauffeur texts on arrival and waits 15 minutes free on a residential pickup, then in 15-minute blocks. For clients who find the front steps hard, mention it: the chauffeur will come to the door and help with a coat, a bag or a walker.
Four Caledonia trips, four bookings
- A father with a morning scan at Hamilton General. Business sedan at 7:15, drop-off at the main entrance, hourly booking so the car is outside when the scan finishes.
- A couple flying south from YHM. Sedan to the terminal at 5:00 a.m., and a return booked with flight tracking a week later.
- Four friends at a Friday concert downtown. Executive SUV one way at 6:00 and a return from a side street near the arena at 11:15.
- A granddaughter's convocation at McMaster. A luxury van for three generations, easy step-in, with the chauffeur waiting through the ceremony.
Why the fixed fare matters on this route
A metered ride from Caledonia into the city can climb quickly if Highway 6 is slow or a mountain access is jammed. HamiltonLimo.net fares are fixed when you book: the price includes the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel and gratuity, with HST shown separately, and it does not change if traffic does. There is no surge on a Friday night and no meter running on the Linc. The fare calculator gives a quick estimate before you book.
Nearby places we also cover
The same dispatch desk runs Binbrook and Glanbrook, Brantford and Simcoe and Norfolk, plus the rest of the cities we serve. Visitors to Caledonia who want a hotel close by often stay at the Mountain and Ancaster hotels near YHM, about 15 to 25 minutes away.
