Dundurn Castle, officially Dundurn National Historic Site, is at 610 York Boulevard, about 2–3 km and 5–10 minutes from downtown Hamilton. A one-way black car from anywhere in the city is a planning figure of $75–100 all-in plus HST. For a history afternoon with two or three stops, an hourly chauffeur at $120–145 per hour, three-hour minimum, is the better buy.
Dundurn Castle car service: what to know first
Dundurn is the 40-room Italianate villa that Sir Allan Napier MacNab, railway promoter and Premier of the United Canadas from 1854 to 1856, completed on Burlington Heights in the 1830s. The City of Hamilton runs it as one of its civic museums, and the grounds overlook the west end of Hamilton Harbour, next door to Hamilton Cemetery and a few minutes from the Rock Garden. Getting there is easy; getting there on time for a guided tour, then on to lunch and a second museum without driving in circles, is where a chauffeur helps. HamiltonLimo.net books the whole afternoon on one fixed fare through our own reservation engine, with one chauffeur and one car that stays with you. If you only want a drop-off, that works too. For the city as a whole, see our limo service in Hamilton.

Where the chauffeur drops you and waits
The site lists free on-site parking at 610 York Boulevard, so the car pulls in off York Boulevard and sets you down close to the castle forecourt. Coming from downtown, the chauffeur runs west along King or Main to Dundurn Street and then onto York Boulevard, or straight out York Boulevard from the core, depending on traffic and construction. When you are finished, send a message and the car comes back to the same spot; on hourly bookings it simply waits in the lot. The High Level Bridge and York Boulevard corridor is one of the prettiest short drives in Hamilton, with the harbour below on one side and Cootes Paradise on the other.
How long to allow for Dundurn
Guided tours run about an hour and, per the civic museums site, leave every 20 to 30 minutes through the afternoon, with tours filling quickly at busy times. Admission also includes the Hamilton Military Museum on the grounds. Allow about two hours in total: the castle tour, the military museum, and a walk through the Historic Kitchen Garden in season, which the museum describes as having more than 200 heirloom varieties tended by costumed staff between mid-May and mid-October. Opening days and hours change with the seasons and holidays, so check the official Dundurn page before choosing your pickup time; we do not print hours or prices here.

Best times and seasons to visit
Weekday afternoons are the calmest, and school-trip mornings can be busy in spring. Summer brings the kitchen garden into full growth and makes the harbour view from the grounds worth the stop on its own. The castle is at its most atmospheric from late November through December, when it is dressed for the season; that is also when downtown hotels host holiday parties, so book a chauffeur early for December weekends. Autumn pairs nicely with a walk to the nearby Rock Garden while the trees turn. From our dispatch point of view, the only real traffic headache nearby is a Tiger-Cats home game at Hamilton Stadium (the former Tim Hortons Field) across the city, which can back up the Main and King corridors in the hours before kickoff.
Wedding photos and events at Dundurn
The castle facade, the lawns and the harbour lookout make Dundurn a classic Hamilton wedding portrait stop, and it is only minutes from many downtown ceremony and reception venues. Photography rules, permits and any fees are set by the museum, so your photographer should confirm them with Hamilton Civic Museums well before the day. On our side, a first-class sedan or a partner stretch limousine brings the couple from the ceremony, waits 45 to 60 minutes while portraits are taken, then continues to the reception; a Sprinter can carry the wedding party behind. Stretch limousines and Rolls-Royce cars come from vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network. Details are on our wedding limo page.

Sample hourly itinerary: a Hamilton history afternoon
This three-and-a-half-hour sedan plan works most of the year:
- 12:30 pm pickup at a downtown hotel; 3 km, about 8 minutes to Dundurn.
- 12:40–2:40 pm castle tour, Hamilton Military Museum and the grounds; the chauffeur waits on site.
- 2:45 pm about 5 km, 10 minutes, back into the core to the Art Gallery of Hamilton on King Street West.
- 2:55–3:45 pm gallery visit.
- 3:50 pm 2 km to James Street North for coffee, then back to the hotel.
For a longer day, add the Rock Garden at Royal Botanical Gardens, about 2 km west of Dundurn along York Boulevard, or the other Hamilton museums we cover separately.
Combining Dundurn with the waterfront or the waterfalls
Dundurn sits directly above the west harbour, so the Hamilton waterfront at Bayfront Park and Pier 4 is only about 3 km away. Visitors who want nature after history often head up the escarpment to one of the falls; Tew's Falls and Webster's Falls near Dundas are about 12 km and 20 minutes west. Waterfall parking in the Dundas area is limited and often requires advance reservation through Hamilton Conservation Authority (conservationhamilton.ca), so a chauffeur drop-off is simpler than driving yourself. Our waterfall tours page explains how we plan those stops.
Vehicle choice for Dundurn visits
- Business sedan: one to three guests, the everyday choice for a museum afternoon.
- Business SUV: up to five passengers and five bags; a black Tahoe or Yukon for a family of five, about $100–130 one way within Hamilton or $145–175 per hour.
- First-class sedan: anniversaries, visiting executives and wedding couples.
- Executive SUV or luxury van: up to six guests, room for strollers and walkers.
- Sprinter: up to fourteen, for tour groups, reunions and wedding parties.
- Jet Sprinter: a VIP lounge Sprinter for up to seven, the couple's lounge between ceremony, portraits and reception; $650–750 an hour.
Groups larger than a single Sprinter are split across vehicles on one dispatch, priced in writing by a coordinator. The fleet page lists capacities.
Accessibility at Dundurn
The museum describes the site as partially wheelchair accessible, and strollers cannot be taken inside the castle, so call the museum ahead to ask which floors and rooms a wheelchair user can reach. What we can do is set the car down as close as the site allows, help a guest in and out, and stow a folding wheelchair or walker. Chauffeurs are patient with slower walkers and will not rush a pickup. We do not operate ramp-equipped accessible vehicles, and we say so up front rather than let anyone find out at the curb.
Families and school groups
Children tend to enjoy the costumed interpreters and the kitchens below stairs more than adults expect. Parents can add infant, convertible or booster seats at booking for a planning figure of $10–15 each. For a class or youth group, a Sprinter with luggage space for lunches and coats avoids the cost of a full coach. Keep in mind that tours fill at busy times, so arriving early is better than arriving late.
Arriving in Hamilton for the day
Plenty of our Dundurn passengers are visitors who arrived that morning. From Toronto Pearson the run is about 68 km and 45–65 minutes via the 403, with flight tracking and 30 or 60 minutes of included waiting depending on where you flew from. From Union Station Toronto, a train into Hamilton GO Centre and a short chauffeured hop is often the quickest combination. West Harbour GO on James Street North is closer still, about 3 km from the castle.
Winter and weather notes
Dundurn sits on the lower city side of the escarpment, so the drive from downtown avoids the mountain accesses entirely; the Jolley Cut and Claremont only come into play if you are staying on the Mountain. In winter the York Boulevard hill and the High Level Bridge can be icy, and chauffeurs slow down accordingly. On wet days the car drops you as close to the door as the site allows so umbrellas do most of the work.
What to tell us when you book
The more the dispatcher knows, the smoother the afternoon runs. Give us the number of guests and their ages, any mobility needs, whether you want to catch a particular tour, and where you are going afterwards. If you are staying in a downtown hotel, name it; several have awkward loading zones on one-way streets, and the chauffeur will plan the pickup door in advance. If the group is celebrating, say so, and we will suggest a first-class sedan or a partner stretch limousine for the arrival photos. Everything you enter appears on the confirmation, so nobody has to rely on memory on the day.
Dundurn as part of a longer Hamilton day
Visitors staying only one day often ask what fits around Dundurn. A practical seven-hour sedan booking covers the castle in the morning, lunch on Locke Street about 3 km away, the Art Gallery of Hamilton in early afternoon, a waterfall lookout on the escarpment, and dinner in Dundas. At $120–145 per hour that day is roughly $840–1,015 all-in plus HST for up to three people, which buys one car and one driver for the whole day, with no parking to find and no taxis to juggle between stops.
Business visitors and clients
Hamilton firms sometimes bring out-of-town clients to Dundurn before a dinner downtown; it is an easy way to show off the city's history in two hours. Our corporate car service handles account billing, receipts and a named dispatcher for repeat bookings. For conference delegates at the Hamilton Convention Centre, a Sprinter shuttle to Dundurn and back fits comfortably into a lunch break.
Why book with HamiltonLimo.net
You book directly on our reservation engine, see a fixed all-in fare with HST shown separately, and deal with one dispatch desk from booking to drop-off. There is no meter running while you tour the castle, no surge on a busy Saturday, and no marketplace between you and the chauffeur. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, with a sliding scale inside that window. For the rest of the city, Tourism Hamilton (tourismhamilton.com) and the City of Hamilton (hamilton.ca) are the official sources.
