Prom limo cost in Hamilton, including 13 % HST: an executive SUV for 3 hours is about $644–797 (6 students, $107–133 each); a Sprinter for 4 hours $1,492–1,740 (14 students, $107–124 each); a stretch limousine for 4 hours $1,582–2,034 (10 students, $158–203 each); a party bus for 5 hours $3,673–4,238 (30 students, $122–141 each). Split by seats, agree a dropout rule, and collect before booking.
Parents and students usually ask the same first question, "how much is a prom limo?", and then discover the harder second one: how do ten families split it fairly? This post answers both, with tax included, because the per-student number is the one that gets sent in the group chat. For vehicles, safety rules and the night itself, see our prom limo Hamilton page. For the parent's safety checklist, see prom limo rules every parent should ask about.

What is included in the prom limo price?
The hourly figure covers the vehicle, a sober professional chauffeur, fuel and gratuity, plus bottled water. Nothing is added on the night for tipping. Not included: HST, extra time beyond the booked hours in 30-minute blocks, and cleaning charges if the vehicle is damaged or someone is sick. Those are the lines that turn a fair split into an argument, so agree in advance who pays them.
Why the cheapest vehicle per student is often the Sprinter
Students picture a stretch limousine. Parents, looking at the maths, often end up at the Sprinter. For 12–14 students, it costs less per head, every seat faces forward with a belt, gowns fit, and the step in is easier than a low stretch bench. The stretch wins on the classic arrival photo. If the group is split, one option is the stretch for a short arrival block and the rest of the evening covered differently, but check the minimums first: stretch limousines carry a 4-hour minimum, SUVs and Sprinters 3. Compare vehicles on the stretch limo and Sprinter pages.
Method 1: the equal split
Divide the total with HST by the number of students and round up to the next dollar. It is simple and it works when everyone rides the whole night. Round up so the organiser is not short by a few cents per person on the final payment.
Method 2: the seat-hour split, for groups where not everyone rides the whole time
Sometimes two students only need the arrival, or one leaves early for a family event. A seat-hour split is fairer:
- Count seat-hours: each student's hours in the vehicle.
- Divide the total by the total seat-hours.
- Multiply by each student's hours.
Example: a Sprinter for 4 hours, $1,492–1,740 with HST. Ten students ride 4 hours (40 seat-hours), two ride 2 hours (4 seat-hours), 44 in total. At the midpoint of about $1,616, a seat-hour is about $36.73. Full-night riders pay about $147; two-hour riders about $73.

Method 3: couples and dates from other schools
A date from another school takes a full seat, so they pay a full share, usually through the student who invited them. Couples are two seats, two shares. The mistake is treating a couple as one unit and discovering the numbers do not add up the week before prom.
The dropout rule: agree it before anyone pays
Friend groups change in May. The vehicle price does not change if one student drops out, so the group needs a rule written into the chat before money moves. Our suggestion:
- Before the booking is confirmed: dropouts get a full refund.
- After the booking, more than 72 hours before pickup: the dropout finds a replacement or forfeits the share, unless the group can move to a smaller vehicle at no charge, which the coordinator can often arrange.
- Within 72 hours: shares are not refundable, because the cancellation schedule applies to the whole booking.
Our cancellation terms, measured from scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10 %; 48 hours or less, 50 %; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100 %. They apply to the booking as a whole, not to individual seats.
How to collect the money without drama
- One parent books and pays. One card, one contact for dispatch.
- Collect before booking, or at least before the deposit. E-transfer with the student's name in the memo.
- Publish the spreadsheet: names, share, paid or not.
- Set a deadline two weeks before prom for the balance.
- Keep a 5 % buffer for overtime or a cleaning charge; refund it afterwards if unused.
We do not collect from each family separately; the organiser's card is the booking.
Ways to cut the prom limo cost
- Fill the vehicle. An SUV with six costs less each than one with four.
- Choose a Thursday prom date if your school has one; the partner stretch limousines are easier to book.
- Shorten the evening. Photos on the way to the venue instead of a separate trip saves an hour.
- Book early. Price does not rise with demand in our engine, but the cheaper vehicle classes sell out first.
- Consider drop-off plus late pickup only after checking minimums: two separate 3-hour bookings can cost more than one continuous 5-hour booking.
What a prom limo quote should show on one page
Before the group commits, the organiser should have a single written quote that shows:
- The vehicle class and seat count, and whether it is own-fleet or a partner vehicle.
- The date, first pickup time, hours booked and the rate for extra 30-minute blocks.
- Every pickup and drop-off address, including the approved after-party address if there is one.
- The all-in price and HST as separate lines, and the total.
- The cancellation schedule and the deposit and balance dates.
Share a screenshot of that page with every family. Arguments about money almost always start with a number someone heard on the phone rather than one they saw in writing.
When to book, and why it affects the price
Hamilton and Burlington proms cluster on a handful of Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in May and June, the same weeks that weddings take the partner stretch limousines and party buses. Our engine does not surge prices on busy nights, but the cheaper classes fill first, and a group that waits until April may find only larger vehicles left, which costs more in total even if the per-student figure looks similar. Book as soon as the school publishes the date, then collect shares while enthusiasm is high.
The costs around the car
Transport is one line of a prom budget alongside tickets, clothes, flowers and photos. Two transport-related costs catch families out. First, photo stops: a park or waterfront stop adds 20–30 minutes, and if it is out of the way it adds an hour to the booking. Second, the after-party: a second venue means a second leg, and if it is across the escarpment, 15–20 minutes more. Plan them before booking, not after.
Is it cheaper for parents to drive?
In cash, yes. Several parents driving costs fuel and an evening. What a booked vehicle adds is one arrival together, a sober professional chauffeur, a written route and a dispatch desk that parents can reach all night. Some families do both: parents drive to photos, the vehicle does the venue arrival and the late run home.
The late pickup: budget it separately
Many groups book the arrival and forget the end of the night. The last ride is the one parents care about most, so budget for it. If the vehicle waits through the prom, the hours are in the first booking. If it is released and returns, that is a separate booking with its own minimum, and each drop-off address must be on the itinerary.

Three real-world prom groups
- Six friends, Burlington school, venue on the Burlington waterfront: executive SUV, 3 hours, $644–797 with HST, $107–133 each. See our Burlington page for pickup notes.
- Twelve students from a Hamilton Mountain school, venue in Ancaster: Sprinter, 5 hours with photos at a park and a late run, $1,865–2,175 with HST, $155–181 each.
- Thirty students, two friend groups merged: partner party bus, 5 hours, $3,673–4,238 with HST, $122–141 each, same no-alcohol rules as every prom booking.
Graduation after prom
Prom is not the last event of the year. Convocation and family celebrations follow; our graduation and convocation page covers hourly cars for families, and an hourly private chauffeur in a luxury van often suits grandparents better than a limousine. A 4-hour business sedan is $480–580 plus HST, enough to collect relatives, wait through a ceremony and take everyone to lunch, and it is one booking instead of three separate rides.
Schools, venues and rules that affect the price
Proms are usually at banquet halls, hotels or golf clubs. Some schools set arrival windows or require students to arrive together, and a strict window can reduce waiting time and cost. Check your school board's information: HWDSB, HWCDSB and, in Burlington, HDSB. Alcohol is not permitted in any prom vehicle; Ontario's drinking age is 19 and provincial liquor rules are administered by the AGCO.
Splitting other group rides
The same seat-hour method works for birthdays, stags and concerts. Our general guide to splitting limo costs per person covers those cases.
Book the prom vehicle direct
Book on HamiltonLimo.net's own booking page as soon as your school announces the prom date. Own-fleet SUVs and Sprinters show a fixed all-in fare before you confirm; partner stretch limousines and party buses are priced in writing. One parent books, one dispatch desk runs the night, and there is no app or marketplace in between.
