Hamilton airport to downtown Toronto is about 80 km and 60-85 minutes by car, via the Linc, Highway 403, the QEW and the Gardiner Expressway. A pre-booked HamiltonLimo.net sedan is a planning range of about $280-345 all-in plus HST to Union Station or a downtown hotel. Transit means an HSR bus to Hamilton GO Centre, then GO to Union.
Hamilton airport to Toronto: who makes this trip
A surprising number of YHM passengers are really going to Toronto. Some found a better fare into Hamilton; some are on a charter that only flies from Mount Hope; others have family in Hamilton and business downtown. Our Hamilton airport limo page covers the terminal and the local fares; this post is about the longer run to Toronto, including Union Station, downtown hotels, Billy Bishop and Pearson.
The route by car
From the terminal the chauffeur takes Airport Road and Upper James to the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, west on the Linc to Highway 403, then the 403 through Burlington toward the QEW or the Queen Elizabeth Way directly, depending on traffic. Into Toronto, the QEW becomes the Gardiner Expressway, which runs along the waterfront to downtown. For some trips, and especially at rush hour, the 407 ETR is faster; if the chauffeur uses it, the toll is inside the fare.
- YHM to the 403: about 15 km, 12-15 minutes.
- 403 and QEW through Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga: about 50 km.
- Gardiner into downtown Toronto: about 15 km.
Drive times by time of day
- Late evening or early morning: 60-65 minutes to Union Station.
- Weekday midday: 65-75 minutes.
- Weekday afternoon rush, heading into Toronto: 75-95 minutes, with the Gardiner the slow section.
- Game or concert nights downtown: add 15-20 minutes near the waterfront.

Figures are planning ranges built from our per-kilometre rate card, all-in (chauffeur, fuel, 407 tolls if used, airport fees, gratuity) with HST shown separately. The reservation engine quotes the exact address before you confirm, and that fixed fare does not change.
By transit: HSR plus GO
The transit route is two services. The HSR A Line Express, Route 20, runs from the terminal down the Mountain to downtown Hamilton; the James and King stop is a short walk from Hamilton GO Centre. From there, GO Transit trains and buses run to Union Station, with some trains leaving from West Harbour GO on James Street North instead. How long it takes depends on the connection: the bus leg alone is roughly 40 minutes, and the GO trip adds its own journey time plus any wait. Our post on the bus to Hamilton airport explains the A Line; our guide to the GO train from Hamilton to Toronto explains the rail leg.
Transit is excellent value for a solo traveller with a backpack in daytime. With luggage, children or a late arrival, it is a long evening.

Union Station connections
Some YHM arrivals are catching a train at Union: VIA Rail to Ottawa or Montreal, or the UP Express to Pearson. The chauffeur drops at the entrance you name; tell us which service you are catching so we use the closest door. Union Station publishes maps of its entrances and concourses. Our Union Station Toronto page covers pickups and drop-offs there in detail, and Hamilton to Union Station covers the run from downtown Hamilton.
Downtown Toronto hotels
Most downtown Toronto hotels sit within a few kilometres of Union, and a car stops at the lobby door or porte-cochère. Give the hotel name at booking and the chauffeur will confirm the entrance. Our downtown Toronto hotels page explains where cars stop at each property, and the post on hotels near Union Station helps if you are catching a train next morning.
YHM to Pearson: connecting between airports
Occasionally a traveller lands at YHM and flies out of Pearson the same day, or the reverse. The two airports are about 80 km apart, 50-70 minutes by car via the 403 and the 401 or 427. Leave generous margins: a missed connection between airports is not protected by either airline. A booked car tracks the arriving flight and can be timed to your Pearson check-in. See our Toronto Pearson airport page for terminal pickup and drop-off.
Business days: YHM, Toronto and back
A consultant landing in Hamilton at 8 a.m. with meetings in Mississauga and downtown Toronto, then a flight home from YHM at 7 p.m., is the classic case for an hourly chauffeur. One car and one chauffeur stay with you for the whole day, the bag stays in the trunk, and the drive time becomes call time. A business sedan is $120-145 per hour with a 3-hour minimum; a ten-hour day is about $1,200-1,450 all-in plus HST. A first-class sedan is about 2.4 times the business-sedan rate for client-facing days.
Families visiting Toronto from YHM
Families on a Toronto holiday sometimes fly into Hamilton for price or schedule reasons. An executive SUV or luxury van carries six passengers and six bags, and child seats are fitted at $10-15 each. Visitors often split the trip: a night or two in Hamilton first, then the car to a Toronto hotel. Destination Toronto lists the city's attractions.
Winter and the lakeshore corridor
From December to March, snow squalls off Lake Ontario can slow the QEW through Burlington and Oakville, and the Gardiner can crawl in heavy snow. Our cars run winter tires and chauffeurs check Ontario 511 before long runs. For a timed arrival downtown, dispatch will build in a margin and may suggest the 407 when the lakeshore routes are slow.

Going the other way: Toronto to YHM
For departures from Hamilton, work backwards from your airline's check-in time, add 60-85 minutes of driving, more at rush hour, and a margin in winter. Leaving downtown Toronto between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. on a weekday means the heaviest part of the Gardiner and QEW. Dispatch suggests a pickup time when you book. The fare is the same planning range in reverse.
A real arrival: evening flight, Union Station hotel
A traveller lands at YHM at 6:20 p.m. on a Wednesday with one suitcase and a hotel booked two blocks from Union. The flight is domestic, so 30 minutes of waiting is included from actual landing; the chauffeur texts the car's position as the aircraft taxis in. By 6:45 p.m. the sedan is on the Linc. The 403 and QEW are past their peak, the Gardiner is moving, and the car is at the hotel door at about 7:55 p.m. The transit alternative that evening would have been an A Line bus, a walk to Hamilton GO Centre and whichever GO trip was next, with the suitcase at every step.
A real arrival: two colleagues, one downtown meeting
Two colleagues fly in from a sun-destination conference on a morning charter, land at 9:40 a.m., and have a 1:00 p.m. meeting near King and Bay. International arrivals include 60 minutes of waiting, and they need 35 of it for customs and bags. An executive SUV takes both of them, two cases and two garment bags, and drops them at the meeting just after 11:30 a.m. with time for lunch. A per-person transit fare would have cost less; the car bought two hours and a quiet back seat to prepare.
Toronto events and road closures
Downtown Toronto runs a busy calendar of games, concerts, festivals and road races, and some of them close streets near the waterfront or around Union. When you book, tell us the destination address and the time you need to arrive, and dispatch checks for scheduled closures that day. Chauffeurs may drop you a block from the door when a street is closed, but will always tell you where before you leave YHM. Allow more time on major event days.
Travelling with pets or special items
Travellers moving to Toronto sometimes land at YHM with a pet carrier, a musical instrument or boxes. List every item at booking, including any animal, so dispatch can confirm the arrangement and send the right vehicle before you fly; large items may need an SUV or Sprinter. A cello in a hard case, a set of golf clubs or three moving boxes all change the vehicle choice, and it is far easier to sort that out on the booking screen than at the curb.
Staying in Hamilton first, then Toronto
Many YHM arrivals split the trip: a night or two with family in Hamilton, Burlington or Ancaster, then on to Toronto. That is two simple bookings, a short one from YHM (about $90-115 by sedan to downtown Hamilton) and a longer run into Toronto later in the week, which from downtown Hamilton to Union Station is $270-330. Our fleet has no ramp-equipped vehicles, so for a passenger who must stay in a wheelchair we refer you to a specialist accessible provider.
Mistakes to avoid
- Planning a same-day YHM to Pearson connection with little margin. Allow hours, not minutes.
- Booking a sedan for four adults with checked bags. That is an SUV trip.
- Assuming a direct airport bus to Toronto. There is none; transit needs a connection.
- Forgetting Toronto event traffic. Game nights near the waterfront add time.
